III. POSITION CONTENT
# of servers: 18
# of VMs: 24
# of desktops: 213
We also employ a few NAS devices of varying type.
Day to Day: Easy going facility....training available if this person knows VMware.
This person should understand virtualization with VMware and storage utilizing iSCSI interfaces for server virtualization. They need an understanding of anti-virus in a production environment as it relates to desktops and servers.
They will need to have experience with ACTIVE DIRECTORY is a PLUS.
They will need to be able to work independently on server hardware updates and network configurations. Management is happy to teach and assist whenever possible, but initiative is important. Willing to train in most areas if some VMware experience.
They will also be responsible for updates with some of our major applications. These major application updates require us take and restore SQL backups so they will need some SQL Server experience. These major application updates also require communication with vendors over dates and times to have them remote in. Sometimes we have this updates happening multiple during the same week. It can become confusing when discussing application updates so we need someone that has a slightly higher attention to detail.
They employ VLANs for communication and have managed switches so if they have experience with VLANs in a server environment that would be great. Most of the VLANs do not require configuration but they do require understanding so that the right ip addresses on the right network interface land on the correct VLAN interface.
They will help with their desktop and laptop replacement projects so they should understand imaging processes or have experience with sysprep and desktop imaging tools. they replace desktops regularly so having the ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize work items would be important.
They will be an assist to our helpdesk where they will be helping troubleshoot issues where our other I.T. staff cannot resolve. Experience with troubleshooting or helpdesk work would be good.
