Under the general direction of the Manager of IT Infrastructure, this position is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies.
This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. Participation on projects for a smooth transition of projects from development to production by performing operations activities within the project life cycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Managing problem tickets and service requests.
Assist in the management of existing Linux server hardware. Install new server hardware and replacing faulty server hardware. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Vendor and warranty management for server hardware. Security and critical OS update patch management.
Assist in the management of Linux operating system. Install and configure new Linux servers which includes the operating system. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures and maintain system standards. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created. Vendor management for server software support. Manage backup and recovery process. Security and critical OS update patch management.
Assist in the management of VMware environment. Install, configure and manage the VMware environment. Vendor management for VMware support. Security and critical OS update patch management.
Assist in the management of enterprise storage devices. Install, configure and manage enterprise storage devices. Vendor management for enterprise storage device support. Security and critical patch management.
Support Recovery process and procedures for Linux, VMware and Storage infrastructure.
Support Enterprise Monitoring environment. Proactive monitoring to identify outages, service degradation, or security threats and responding accordingly.
Responding to monitoring alerts.
Responsible to provide on-call support in a 24/7 environment and remedy network outages or other interruptions.
Performs routine audits of systems and software.
User administration (setup and maintaining account).
Performs regular proactive capacity planning for the Linux, VMware, and Storage environments.
Works with the Development team to bring new systems into the production environment.
Required Qualifications:
Four-year degree with emphasis in Computer Science, Computer Technology, MIS or equivalent experience.
Strong organization skills to balance and prioritize work.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3 to 5 years system administration experience.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux/Unix.
Certification or two to four years of VMware Administration and SAN/Storage Administration.
