Job Description
The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (SVPAA) occupies a pivotal role in the hierarchy of academic administration, acting as the essential conduit between academic leadership and the broader university administration. The responsibilities and actions of the SVPAA are primarily focused on advancing the interests of both students and faculty within the institution.
Job Duties
Academic:
- Integral member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Oversees the development, revision, and initiation of academic policies and programs in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, academic faculty, and staff.
- Provides high-level academic oversight for the design, execution, and evaluation of educational programs and initiatives.
- Collaborates with School Deans on academic oversight to support institutional enrollment and retention efforts.
- Facilitates training, evaluation, professional development, and management of School Deans, Program Directors, and Faculty.
- Manages Program Directors through coordination with School Deans.
- Fosters a mentoring environment for School Deans and general education faculty.
- Conducts classroom observations of School Deans (who also teach) and general education faculty.
- Participates in various institutional committees and represents the institution at academic, community, and professional gatherings.
- Oversees the preparation for periodic program reviews, campus visits, and self-studies through effective academic and administrative educational support.
- Liaises with departments to monitor tasks and projects concerning accreditation, compliance, institutional effectiveness, and daily operations.
- Leads efforts to meet accreditation standards and preparations for accreditation visits and reporting.
- Proficient understanding of online and campus-based educational methodologies.
- Applies adult learning theories to the administration of academic programs, promoting student success.
- Skilled in institutional accreditation, understanding federal and state regulatory requirements impacting the university's academic operations.
- Experienced in managing document resources, filing, and tracking systems.
- Capable of interpreting academic and administrative policies and procedures.
- Skilled in organizing and prioritizing tasks to produce reports within tight deadlines.
- Competent in managing multiple responsibilities, task-oriented projects, and details concurrently.
- Able to work independently with excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrates discretion and strong decision-making capabilities.
- A Doctoral degree is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in academic leadership roles.
