The Office of the Provost seeks an experienced and exceptional individual to serve as the Senior Associate Provost and Sr. Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Texas Southern University. A collaborative, experienced, forward-thinking individual is being sought after to join our dynamic Academic Affairs team and help us advance our institutional mission and strategic plan: to provide motivated students the opportunity to transform their lives through higher education. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Senior Associate Provost and Sr. Associate Vice President for Academic will be responsible for the oversight of academic planning and initiatives, including new degree and certificate programs and accreditations; academic policies and procedures; curricular reviews, approvals of new programs, and modifications to existing programs; assist or direct with academic program assessment, submissions of new and revised programs with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB); program reviews; University academic calendars and memoranda of understanding (MOUs), articulations, and other academic agreements.

Essential Duties Summary:

The Senior Associate Provost and Sr. Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs will be responsible for an array of duties. The duties will involve the following: lead or advance academic initiatives by creating implementation plans in a coordinated and strategic manner; oversee and track strategic initiatives and processes; conduct research in the area of student success, recommend actions, and provide advice to the Provost on complicated, sensitive and confidential issues; and execute projects that require the utmost confidentiality and/or urgency for the University. This person will serve as a liaison and resource with other University units and external agencies. As the liaison for the Office of the Provost, the Senior Associate Provost will respond to critical inquiries and manage and facilitate communication between the office and other members of University Administration, faculty, staff, state and federal agencies, and others as needed or requested.
Essential Duties:

  • Represents the Provost and Sr. Vice President for Academic Affairs as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the Directors of the Office of Institutional Research, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Office of Enrollment Management, the Office of Records, the Office of Institutional Technology, and the Office of Online Learning, among others to ensure smooth operations as each intersects with student success at TSU.
  • Serve as the primary contact to the Office of the Provost for curricular issues and developments.
  • Assists the Provost in providing leadership to Deans and Department Chairs.
  • Support the University’s graduate programs through leadership in Graduate Council.
  • Work in tandem or provide administrative oversight to the Academic Program Assessment and guide the University’s academic assessment and planning processes, including implementation of and collaboration with University stakeholders in using assessment results for continuous improvement.
  • Develop initiatives supporting University assessment, planning, and decision-making, particularly in the areas of student outcomes, resource utilization, and program outcome review.
  • Serve as the administrative coordinator for academic research compliance functions including reporting responsibilities.
  • Support University–level accreditation initiatives (principally as the Associate Accreditation Liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges); assists with the coordination of functions as related to the SACSCOC accreditation processes.
  • Oversee and support the undergraduate general education program.
  • Assist the Provost in developing and/or implementing student success initiatives at the university.
  • Represent the University to internal and external constituencies as related to areas of responsibility; maintain awareness of national trends and issues related to assessment, planning, global studies, and institutional research.
  • Develops partnerships with external agencies, organizations, businesses, and K-12 entities and institutes of higher learning that support the institutional goals and mission.
  • Work closely with the academic deans to support their strategic and operational academic plans.
  • Serve as a consultant for the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Hiring Range:

$187,778.00 - $244,112.00

Education:

Candidate must possess a Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to the mission and core values of Texas Southern University; a record of progressively advanced administrative experience in higher education; demonstrated responsibility for a broad range of organizational areas; experience developing, implementing, and overseeing academic curricula, programs, and policies; experience with assessment of learning outcomes, online learning, general education, program review and accreditation; understanding of THECB and SACSCOC guidelines, processes, and requirements; and knowledge of accreditation and institutional effectiveness measures and methods.
Skill in/Ability to:The successful candidate will have superior leadership, organizational, planning, and management skills, along with outstanding written and oral communication skills; professional and ethical standards of the highest caliber; sound judgment, maturity, and composure; commitment to providing superior service by example and through administrative practices; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with diverse groups and to engage stakeholders in decision-making; and commitment to promoting success of all students and to reducing barriers to success related to difference, in dimensions such as race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture, and disability.

Work Experience:

Candidate must possess:

  • 15-years of administrative experience in higher education.
  • History of leadership experiences both within and outside of the academy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across institutional settings.
  • Knowledge of planning processes in higher education.
  • Knowledge of assessment of student learning and performance measurement.
  • Knowledge of online learning administration and pedagogy.
