The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
The primary purpose of the position is to cultivate, oversee and direct the physician resources who support the MD Anderson Cancer Network - both internally at MD Anderson's flagship campus in Houston and externally at all Cancer Network locations. This position also supports the deployment of physician resources in other areas of the Cancer Network's portfolio, including Global Oncology, the Research Network, and consulting and advisory relationships with health systems and hospitals.
KEY FUNCTIONS
The effort allocation for this position will be up to 70% administrative. It will maintain faculty appointment status.
• Proposes, designs, and contributes to developing strategic plans to advance clinical and academic objectives of the Cancer Network. Supports educational objectives in collaboration with Cancer Network Clinical Operations leadership, research objectives in collaboration with Cancer Network Research leadership, and global oncology objectives in collaboration with Global Oncology leadership.
• Serves as primary liaison between Cancer Network physician resources and the clinical divisions, including Cancer Network physician executive directors, directors, clinical site directors, and consultants.
• Creates, designs, and implements strategies to support multi-disciplinary subspeciality cancer care delivery across the Cancer Network, inclusive of recruitment and program development efforts at Cancer Network partner sites.
• Identifies and cultivates a group of MD Anderson physician subject matter experts, who will appropriately support the objectives of, and provide service to, all Cancer Network locations, products, and members, including Cancer Network partners.
1) Leads the orientation and onboarding of new physician resources in Cancer Network.
2) Responsible for the integration of approved and candidate physicians from all Network partners. This includes helping organize annual disease specific integration retreats, for example.
3) Leads clinical and adjunct academic appointment process for Cancer Network physicians.
4) Establishes performance measures, coordinates effort support and distribution, and sets expectations to ensure MD Anderson physicians who support the Cancer Network are appropriately evaluated and accountable. Provides feedback on performance of MD Anderson physicians supporting the Cancer Network to the individual physicians, their respective department chair/division head, and the Chief Cancer Network Officer.
• Works closely with the Chief Cancer Network Officer to support communication of MD Anderson's vision for Cancer Network to MD Anderson division heads, department chairs, and across all levels of the organization.
• Maintains close collaboration with other Cancer Network physician leaders to ensure that faculty support needs are achieved across the Network, including in clinical operations (Vice President, Cancer Network Clinical Operations), research (Associate Vice President, Cancer Network Research), and global oncology (Associate Vice President, Global Oncology).
• Maintains close collaboration with the institutional Chief Quality and Value Officer and Chief Administrative Quality Officer to support the implementation of the Cancer Network quality program.
• Represents Cancer Network externally with physician and administrative leadership at Cancer Network sites.
• Travels as needed to sites outside of Houston and Texas and (infrequently) internationally; and upon return, completes analysis and presentation of data and findings.
Education and certifications
Education: M. D. or equivalent degree (D.O., M.B.B.S) from an accredited medical college.
Certification: Board certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved specialty board; if such certification is not possible due to foreign medical training, exemption based on board-equivalent training may be considered.
Licensure: Eligible for full and unrestricted Texas medical license.
Academic Rank: Candidates must qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher at MD Anderson.
EXPERIENCE
Required Experience:
- At least 7 years' experience as a clinical faculty member in an academic medical center setting.
Preferred Experience:
- At least 3 years of administrative leadership experience in an academic medical center setting.
