Surgery Scheduler

Position Overview:

Performs standard and advanced clerical duties for the surgery unit, under the direction of the unit charge nurse and director. Interfaces with all departments, physicians' offices and patients.

Job Description:

• Schedules surgical and anesthesia procedures with various departments. Interfaces daily with MDs and their staff to coordinate all aspects of the scheduling process. Arranges for all specialty equipment and instruments to be available for each case, when needed, and coordinates room utilization.
• Directs the preparation and maintenance of the department reports. Prepares periodic reports for management, as required.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, infection control, safety and environmental standard updates as needed and allocates policy ID numbers.
• Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospital and nursing standards.
• Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
• Inventories and orders all office supplies regularly as assigned or needed.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

EDUCATION

• Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
• HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

• 2 years secretarial experience in a health care setting
