You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM OFFICE (IHOP) of NMRTC SAN DIEGO CA.
This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Giving advice and assistance w/regard to experimental operations where protection of workers form hazards must be weighed against the developmental need for new products or processes;
- Delivering advice and technical services on industrial hygiene/toxicology matters, (i.e., supervision subordinate personnel; rendering technical advice/direction on industrial hygiene sampling and analysis techniques; to secure information at the workplace to be used in special studies; to gain compliance w/health standards and regulations; to give lectures on occupational health and the application of regulations and standards; to discuss field survey findings, technical issues, and control recommendations; and to resolve technical disagreements);
- Providing advice and direction for a broad range of industrial hygiene matters and difficult types of industrial hygiene evaluations;
- Applying new techniques, technical advances and experienced judgment in solving problems;
- Training INDUSTRIAL HYGIENISTs, occupational safety and health personnel, management, supervisors, and employees; AND
- Utilizing fiscal policies, material management, inventory control, budget execution, and general supply maintenance procedures.

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; OR
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; OR
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
