Salary Information: $23.28 - $33.28/Hourly
Who We Are
Continental Maritime of San Diego, a Titan company, is a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy. Our skilled professionals have performed hundreds of ship repairs for the Navy and Military Sealift Command. CMSD does repair on all types of major surface vessels including CVN, CG, and DDG, and all types of amphibious ships including LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work also includes repairs and alterations to a wide range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability Systems.
Position Specifics
The Industrial Hygienist monitors and updates the industrial health program to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control industrial health hazards emphasizing environmental factors and/or stressors arising in or from the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers. Assists leadership in assessing risk, determining risk tolerance and mitigate risks. Generates professional technical reports and work with the Nurse Practitioner regarding employee notification letters associated with exposure monitoring results. Supports and executes all functions of the EH&S Coordinators. Conducts additional training to ensure employee awareness of occupational health topics. Performs job safety assessments as needed giving workplace mentoring; implements corrective actions and/or halts operations where/when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- US Citizenship is required
- Must be able to recognize, evaluate, and control occupational safety hazards as well as enforce company safety procedures, rules, and assist in educating employees in the area of work and personal safety
- Must have knowledge of applicable regulations and US Navy Standard Items
- Must be able to obtain and maintain government issued credential to access applicable naval installation
- Must have proficient knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be proficient in the use of PCs and work processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop applications, and electronic mail programs
- Must have proficient organizational skills
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Chemistry or related field approved by the ABIH certification board
- Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification or eligible to take the exam at hire date
- Two years’ industry experience
Physical Requirements
- Constantly works in an industrial or shipboard environment
- Frequently moves throughout the yard
- Ability to move up to 40 lbs.
- May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams
- Must be able to maneuver, ascend, and descend stairs/ladder located inside various ships
