Under the general direction of the Regional Manager in the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Enforcement Branch, the Regional Senior Industrial Hygienist is responsible for performing the full range of professional level Senior Industrial Hygienist work in connection with health, chemical, physical and biological hazards in places of employment related to the Cal/OSHA program.
The Senior Industrial Hygienist conducts, including but not limited to, specialized health inspections, accident/illness investigations, and consultations assignments related in connection with health, chemical, physical and biological hazards in places of employment, (work that requires or involves extensive experience, knowledge and skills in industrial hygiene principles, practices and methods) throughout the State; assist the District Manager and Regional Manager in developing procedures and guidelines for conducting audits, inspections, and accident/illness investigations; leads, plans, organizes, reviews and directs the work of teams assigned to perform inspections (e.g. Heat, Silica, Asbestos, Fatal health related accidents/illnesses, health complaints, etc.), and special assignments (e.g. Enforcement Task Force projects; Special Emphasis Projects); evaluates work performance of health engineers and prepares written training development plans to help improve staff performance for management; conducts committee meetings to revise or propose new health orders within the Cal/OSHA program; perform in-service and on-the-job training of staff, and works in the Regional office and travels throughout the state as required.
The Senior Industrial Hygiene develops programs for promotion of industrial hygiene concepts; consults with labor, management and public groups on the more complex and sensitive health problems/hazards; assist the Regional Manager with the implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs including but not limited to, IIPP, Heat Prevention Program, Respiratory Protection Program, Medical Surveillance Program, etc.; assist the District Manager with planning, tracking and reviewing workload; and provides technical advice to the Regional Manager, District Manager and compliance staff. In the absence of the District Manager, the Senior Industrial Hygienist may be required to assume some of the District Manager responsibilities.
Senior Industrial Hygienist are to perform all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies, DOSH Compliance Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums.

Special Requirements
Possession of a Certificate in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene issued by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
