Sawmill Superintendent – Joanna, SC (OSB Mill)
Description
The Sawmill Superintendent will provide leadership, training, and development to supervisors and hourly employees by managing the process flow, resources, and workforce to meet and exceed established budgets and performance objects.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership for the department by being a role model in all and maintaining high standards in areas including safety, working relationships, quality, and training
- Oversee the day to day operations of the sawmill and maintenance departments
- Utilize established performance management system to develop direct reports in the best interest of the company (costs, overtime, absenteeism, employee performance)
- Work with operations to improve reliability and maximize equipment availability at the lowest cost to the mill through involvement and understanding of the business
- Provide supervisors with the tools and manpower to keep the equipment reliable
- Develop, implement, monitor, and report on systems for personnel development, system design, cost control, and equipment availability
- Manage the department cost in an aggressive manner assuring optimum manufacturing unit cost, development, and education on key metrics
- Effectively communicate goals to the team
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment required
- Must have worked with Sawmill equipment recently.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent proven leadership, vision, dedication & ability to mentor a team in heavy manufacturing
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills – conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem-solving
- Strong mechanical and technical knowledge.
- Must be computer literate, including a strong background in MS Office
- Strong Organizational and Leadership Skills
- Detail and results-oriented
- Financial planning & budgeting experience
