Job description

SUMMARY:

The General Superintendent position involves management, administrative, supervisory, and operational responsibilities in managing day-to-day operations, installation, repair, and replacement activities for a range of site work activities. This position sets project goals and is expected to direct and assist foreman and employees in their daily tasks and activities. Specifically, this position is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance for projects involving sitework, including but not limited to: erosion control bmp assessment and installations, clearing and grubbing, site grading and excavation, storm sewer systems, domestic water and fire water service, sanitary sewer systems and appurtenances, subgrade preparation, subbase installation, asphalt paving, concrete paving, curb and gutter, sidewalk, other concrete foundations, site signage and striping, site stabilization, and other areas ancillary to company operations. This position could assume the some or all the duties of another position in the absence of that position.

You are expected to work independently and resolve most of the conflicts which arise. It is essential you keep other field supervisors/foremen aligned with required progress, production and schedules. You should provide recommendations, solutions, and actions necessary to resolve problems or other potentially controversial matters.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The General Superintendent works under the direction of the President the company.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Management: Provide overall supervision through other foremen and employees in concert with the Project Manager of the actual physical construction of the project(s) in strict accordance with the contract documents. Ensure foremen deliver high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule and budget. Plan and review the project work with all foremen working on projects under your supervision. Take the lead on job site logistics, organization, equipment and manpower utilization. Serve as a liaison between the field equipment needs and upper management to streamline equipment repairs and mobilization. Lead the team in preparation of 2 week look ahead work schedules and keep them updated. Schedule and ensure the delivery of materials and equipment for their timely on-site delivery. Coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of subcontractors and suppliers. Coordinate the work onsite with the activities of inspection agencies as necessary. Keep Project Managers informed as to changes made in the field, so that such changes may be covered by general contract change orders and subcontract change orders. Ensure the maintenance of satisfactory relationships with owners and subcontractors. Mentor promising employees/develop future leaders utilizing strict protocol. Ensure subordinates perform per the published Job Description and perform employee review in keeping with the corporate policy. Work closely with estimating managers to perform the following: Assist in making go/no-go decisions to pursue projects; assist in developing quantity estimates for potential projects; periodic review of costs.

· Administrative: Lead teams and provide direction to daily job activities. Ensure that operators are completing daily Equipment, Pre-task Safety, Excavation, and other Daily reports.

· Machinery Operation: Operate all heavy equipment like excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, and other related equipment. Ensure and manage the machines or equipment in a safe and secure way. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform minor repair works during functioning problems and advise supervisor when machines need major attention.

· Safety: Maintain an environment and lead crews to avoid injury or property damage. Perform periodical safety, maintenance, or servicing checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment. Perform pre-task safety talks and briefings. Wear proper PPE for the job and ensure other employees are following suit.

· Technical: Establish accurate elevations for work being installed/graded/excavated. Perform general layout for work installations. Read and interpret plans to install materials as dictated by the contract documents. Properly spread and level dirt/stone/gravel to meet compactions requirements. Install storm piping in accordance with the methodology established by manufactures. Install water and sewer piping in accordance with the methodology established by manufactures and local code. Utilize knowledge of GPS equipment, implement its use on the jobsite, and train others to effectively use this technology to increase production efficiencies.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

· Lead and take charge of the work to ensure work is being efficiently performed.

· Adapt to changing work conditions/situations to ensure the workday is efficient. This includes leading other employees to do the same.

· Plan to ensure the correct equipment, materials, and needed labor are requested and present.

· Plan ahead to identify potential issues and conflicts in work schedules, drawings, and other trades.

· Supervise and communicate both verbally and written.

· Efficiently communicate via electronic communication and tools. Includes but not limited to: email, web based programs for tracking and reporting, and other basic computer skills.

· Plan and execute assignments as outlined with the operations manager or project manager to maintain positive production each week.

· Lead by example, help others build their knowledge base, and help motivate individuals to get the job done accurately and efficiently.

· Demonstrate informative and professional assistance when working with vendors, customers and co-workers.

· Act independently and originate new procedures and new approaches to problems.

· Maintain initiative to meet and exceed the project construction schedule.

· Sustain interpersonal relationships, which encourage openness, truthfulness and confidence, both internally and externally.

· Maintain Company information in a confidential manner.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $105,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
