Description:

Summary:
Under the direction of the Summer Program Director at Geffen Academy at UCLA, the Educator will create this course of study, prepare materials, and deliver an excellent summer STEM Educator enrichment course for Geffen Academy’s Summer Program students. The Educator will teach three courses, 2 sections (total); one courses designed for students entering grade 5 (two sections, 45 minutes) and a second course (one section, 90 minutes) designed for students entering grades 6-11. The classes are 45/90 minutes long, over a three (3) week period. The course will be taught in-person on Geffen Academy’s campus.
- Consistent with Geffen Academy’s goals participate in the design and development of curricula that develops a persistent inquirers mindset in the Geffen Academy’s students, centered through hands on activities that allows students to explore and discover different aspects of science, technology, engineering and math.
- Create opportunity for students to work on developing skills around: teamwork, critical thinking, investigating, and creativity.
- Engage students with real-world scenarios that takes them out of the classroom and shows how they can apply these subjects in real-life.
- Create a learning environment where students feel safe, welcome, and challenged.
- Consistent with department leadership’s direction, collaborate with other educators in creation of the Geffen Academy program that meets the need and interests of the Geffen Academy’s students.
- Be available to students and parents for any and all department related issues.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.
- Ability to communicate effectively with secondary school students (grades 5-12), especially those entering grade 5.
- Flexible, excellent communication and listening skills.
- Exhibit good judgment.
- Responsible and observant.
- Unquestionable personal integrity, excellent judgment, sound instincts, diplomacy and patience, and strong work ethic.
- Must be self-directed and able to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks subject to frequent interruption.
- Exceptional listening skills and sensitivity to the needs of others.
- Collegially inclined with peers; a willing communicator and collaborator; enthusiastic team player.
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced summer program environment.
