Summer Camp STEM Instructor

Job purpose

BrainStorm STEM Education, located in Irvine, CA, is the leading educational provider for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs in Southern California and we are seeking awesome Instructors to help with programs in our fast growing and exciting company. The ideal candidate for this job will have an outgoing personality, classroom management skills, an eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and a dedication to helping kids develop STEM skills.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with kids, who are reliable and love to work hard and play hard, who is detail oriented and a great communicator with a sense a humor to ensure awesome educational experiences for our students.

You’ll mentor students ages 6-12 in a fun and engaging learning environment. You will lead students through amazing hands-on STEM projects and activities. We provide all of the curriculum and training – you bring your knowledge of STEM and passion for teaching.

Ideal Candidate qualities:
-Teaching or tutoring experience.
-Camp or After-School experience.
-Customer service experience.
-2+ years of college in a related field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts educational programs at school sites with groups of 15-25 students.
  • Provide and promote a safe and nurturing environment that’s conducive to learning the BrainStorm teaching methodology.
  • Teach STEM enrichment activities to students in grades K-5 or 6-8.
  • Assist children with detailed oriented projects and activities.
  • Prepare for each instructional session; organize materials as appropriate.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all children, families, school partners, co-workers, and community members.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with co-workers/teammates
  • Maintain a clean, safe, pleasant, and enriched environment.
  • Participate in ongoing staff development and company-wide project initiatives.
  • Develop, update and research curriculum for STEM classes
  • Work on other projects as assigned.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel) and Google Drive (i.e. Docs, Sheets).

Qualifications

  • High School Degree and some College in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible
  • Has the ability to explain concepts to students in multiple ways.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver quality work.
  • STEM, Science, Robotics, Programming skills.
  • Works well with children and can perform classroom management.
  • Able to communicate instructions clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents, and community leaders.
  • Interpersonal relations skills; having a positive attitude and using patience, tact, and respect.
  • Preparation and maintenance of clear and accurate records and reports.
  • Able to lift 30 to 55 lbs. of equipment.
  • Experience working with/teaching children a plus.
  • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting).
  • Proof of TB Test (valid within the past 3 years from hire date).
  • Vehicle to transport the BrainStorm teaching kit.

Working conditions

Occasional work on weekends. Must have vehicle. Must be comfortable working with, and giving instructions to, children aged 5 – 16.

Physical requirements

  • May be required to walk on uneven surfaces. Stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to lift equipment up to 30-55 lbs.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, bending and twisting at the waist, seeing to review and analyze reports and documents.
  • May be exposed to outdoor elements including noise and weather.
  • Bending, twisting, stooping, overhead reaching, and repetitive hand/arm motion.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods. And walk quickly on occasion.
  • May be exposed to outdoor elements including noise and weather.
  • Occasional cleaning (vacuuming, wiping down equipment, etc.)
  • Other physical duties, as needed.
