Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH) was awarded the Kids Plate grant from California Department of Public Health, Vehicle Occupant Safety Program. On this program, SCPH will partner with two Child Passenger Safety programs to hire Student Assistant interns to do Child Passenger Safety outreach and education to refugee resettlement agency staff and families they assist. The interns will work with SCPH's health educator and hospital staff to conduct car seat safety checks and provide education. This position will be trained to become a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.
Location: Sacramento County Public Health with assignments at UC Davis Health Safe Kids or Dignity Health Mercy San Juan
Duration: Approximately 2 years, ending on 6/30/2025
Supervision: You will be supervised by a health educator at Sacramento County Public Health. As well as the point of contact at the respective hospitals to coordinate the weekly check-ups.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Some weekends may be required for events.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Minimum Qualifications
- Have transportation to off-site activities.
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Ukrainian, Russian, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, and/or Spanish preferred.
- Students that are committed to intern until end of grant period on 6/30/25.
- Undergraduate students in their 2nd or 3rd year.
- Experience working in outreach or diverse client facing positions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a list of local agencies offering 2-hour Child Passenger Safety (CPS) classes.
- Develop, translate, and distribute promotional flyers for CPS classes and hands-on appointments targeting refugee parents and caregivers.
- Assist and/or conduct 15 hands-on CPS sessions for refugee parents and caregivers who speak Russian, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, and/or Arabic.
- Facilitate the distribution of free Kids' Plates child safety seats to parents and caregivers who attend CPS classes.
- Collaborate with local partners to promote the sales of Kids' Plates license plates.
- Support the lead CPST Instructor (CPSTI) in preparing agency staff and interns for successful CPST course/training completion.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds to approximately waist level to put car seat into cars. Ability to install car seats, will be trained on proper installation. Car seat installation takes some grip and hand strength.
Working Conditions
Work may be performed in an office, outside, and in cars for installations.
