Quality professional assigned as the responsible QA representative on development and production programs to ensure Quality Assurance requirements are being met. Position is also assigned to direct supplier process Quality Assurance objectives and to lead company improvement initiatives.
- Thoroughly understands and applies quality system requirements, e.g. ISO 9000 concepts, government quality requirements, Quality Assurance directives, standard operating procedures, etc. Demonstrates capability in basic quality system implementation.
- Demonstrates experience with current products, tools and processes. Provides technical support to programs, operational groups and component suppliers. Assists with problem diagnosis. Understands the impact of process variation on products.
- Successfully uses quality metrics, SPC, and/or statistical methods to enhance performance, identifies opportunities for lowering manufacturing costs, and for problem solving.
- Reviews engineering designs and specifications for translation into inspection verification methods. Participates in specifying content on new and revised drawings.
- Evaluates tooling designs for inspection applicability and approves tool drawings.
- Prepares inspection plans, failure analysis reports, test procedures, work instructions, ECPs, waivers, deviations and other technical reports or documentation as needed. Develops Program Quality Requirement Summaries (PQRS) for assigned development and production programs.
- Assists suppliers in preparation of purchase order quality submittals and reviews/approves the same.
- Thoroughly understands Material Review Board (MRB) procedures and the use of all dispositions. Successfully performs complex and timely corrective actions. Participates as a member of the MRB.
- Understands Configuration Management principles and be capable of authoring and approving change request documents.
- Performs Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of product designs.
- Understands Measurement Systems Analysis, including Gauge R&R. Have experience with basic Measurement Systems Analysis studies.
- Thoroughly understands and evaluate calibration systems.
- Regularly communicates with customers and suppliers on supported programs.
- Negotiates Engineering Work Requests (EWR) scope and budgets requests.
- Conducts training on relatively simple quality, technical and/or business skills.
- Conducts inspections, surveys and/or audits of supplier operations, facilities, or products.
- Leads company improvement initiatives and identify new opportunities for improvement.
- Supports Bid and Proposal activities. Provides quality and pricing input on more complex proposals including writing applicable proposal sections.
- May specify new test techniques (NDT, etc.), processes and equipment to meet the needs of new programs or special inspections.
- May evaluate the capabilities of suppliers and subcontractors and update the quality approved suppliers list and may evaluate the effectiveness of supplier corrective actions.
- May review manufacturing process planning to ensure compliance with drawing, specification, and contractual requirements.
- Successfully demonstrated the position requirements of Quality Engineer 2.
- Possess a working knowledge of engineering fundamentals in all of the following areas: Fluid Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Materials & Processes, Heat Transfer, Physics & Chemistry, Electronics and Manufacturing Processes.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Possess a thorough knowledge of statistical methods and design for manufacturing issues.
- Be proficient in the specification and use of test equipment required in the area of assignment such as, but not limited to gages, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and helium leak detection equipment.
- Be proficient in the specification and use of standard measuring equipment required such as, but not limited to height gages, micrometers, calipers and scales.
- Be proficient in the use of standard office computer technology.
- Requires communication skills, both written and oral, using English language in order to work with customers and subcontractors to meet objectives.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field and at least five (5) years of related manufacturing or quality experience.
