Come join one of the fastest-growing independently owned distributors in Northern California! We are looking for a full-time Sr. Credit Specialist to join our team at our branch in Hayward, CA.
The Senior Credit Specialist multi-tasks and performs at a high level of responsibility and leadership to oversee the efficient management of invoicing, payment collections, and credit risk.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Investigate and resolve short payments, disputed charges, and invalid deductions in a timely manner.
- Send and follow up on job information worksheets related to customer liens.
- Process preliminary notices using the Lien Writer program.
- Process conditional and unconditional waivers promptly and accurately.
- Review customer purchase orders and address any discrepancies or issues with the sales team.
- Make collection calls on assigned accounts in a professional and courteous manner, maintaining positive customer relations.
- Review customer accounts and order status to determine order release criteria as needed by request from the Credit Specialist.
- Monitor outstanding balances and take appropriate actions to ensure timely payments.
- Provide support and guidance to the sales team and order entry administrators regarding billing issues and order reconciliation.
- Maintain and update customer portfolios with accurate and current information.
- Process and post daily cash, ACH, wire transfers, and credit card transactions accurately.
- Review and audit orders as needed for accuracy and compliance, placing discrepant orders on credit hold as needed with Credit Managers approval
- Process customer refunds when required.
- Write off bad debts and service charges when deemed appropriate after Credit Manager approval.
- Identify and execute necessary process adjustments to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Send statements to outstanding customers as requested and as part of the collection process.
- Maintain records, including filing and scanning invoices, debit and credit memos, and support documentation.
- Assist with audit and compliance activities as required.
- Handling other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in credit and collections background preferred.
Computer Skills:
- Intermediate or better knowledge of personal computers and peripherals, word processing and spreadsheet software, e-mail and the Internet.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., Lien Writer program, accounting software).
- 10-Key by touch
Other Skills and Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of financial statement analysis, credit scoring models, and industry-specific risk factors.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and accounts receivable processes.
- Proficiency in financial software and credit analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
