Reports to: Sr. Director of Leadership Giving
Primary Purpose:
The Special Events and Grants Manager will primarily establish, develop, and implement the plans, calendars, programs, and policies needed to support fundraising activities for Special Events and corporate and foundation support. This person will write and proofread correspondence, grants, marketing content, and other collateral material for the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, Development staff, and other appropriate parties.
Essential Functions
- Develop strategies resulting in special event, corporate, and foundation support.
- Directly solicit and close special event, corporate, and foundation gifts, sponsorships, and Grants.
- Maintain excellent records and follow through.
- Write and edit copy for accuracy, effectiveness, and the Houston SPCA style.
- Provide monthly progress reports to management.
- Protect all confidential information, including donors, clients, animals, and internal communications.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and other events to present the Houston SPCA as an excellent support recipient, including but not limited to workplace and matched giving.
- Maintain and update the Houston SPCA?s information with industry oversight organizations including, but not limited to 211/United Way, Better Business Bureau, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch, GiveWell, Guidestar, and Network for Good.
- In all areas of responsibility - continuously update the primary database of record, Raiser?s Edge, with prospect and donor interactions, proposals, and other information as required by best practices.
- Participate in special projects as directed by the Senior Director of Leadership Giving.
- Represent the Houston SPCA by providing excellent customer service and focus.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Special Event Coordination
- Coordinate existing Special Events and develop a strategy for new Events and programs for fundraising.
- Manage all aspects of the Houston SPCA?s signature Howl-O-Ween Ball event and the Houston SPCA?s Golf Outing benefiting the Wildlife Center of Texas.
- Maximize Return on Investment (ROI) and Return on Energy (ROE) for all initiatives.
- Sustain and grow Peer and Third-Party events.
- Oversee Corporate Volunteer Days.
Grant Coordination
- Create and maintain a grant proposal, application, and report calendar.
- Research, write, and edit grants.
- Craft tailored acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.
