SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises three to seven Corpsmembers engaged in construction program.


SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the YouthBuild Fresno Program Manager, provides supervision during career tech training service duties. Supervisor works in conjunction with Corpsmembers providing career tech training instruction. Performs and assists others in work related to the day-to-day operation of the construction training program.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for supervising assigned staff, interns and volunteers; recruitment, performance management and other personnel processes.

Leads and supervises an ethnically diverse population of unskilled young adults with multiple barriers to employment. Provides responsible supervision during career tech training and service learning/community service events. Supervises Corpsmembers in a work crew setting, including implementation of policies and procedures consistent with Local Conservation Corps (LCC) Corpsmember Handbook.

Supervises and conducts career tech, safety, and equipment training for Corpsmembers in construction related activities.

Teaches and guides Corpsmembers on fundamentals of building single family homes including, but not limited to: skills in concrete work (foundations, driveways, sidewalks, etc.), framing, installing windows, drywall (hanging, finishing), painting, finish carpentry, patios, landscaping, basic irrigations and plumbing, work site safety and clean-up, and other related duties/activities on the construction worksite or in the construction classroom.

Serves as a role model for Corpsmembers, including active involvement and support of their career tech training and educational goals.

Mentors and coaches Corpsmembers to resolve behavioral issues and other barriers to their career tech field training and other corps requirements. Implements disciplinary measures when needed within the guidelines of the LCC Corpsmember Handbook.

Administers comprehensive safety training related to the worksite and classroom, assuring the safety of Corpsmembers and staff during all work tasks.

Provides comprehensive customer service to Corpsmembers and program partners, which includes training Corpsmembers in customer service techniques.

Effectively structures field and classroom workload to meet deadlines.

Develops, leads and maintains a positive and productive work environment.

Delivers high quality and timely completion of all jobs, projects and related services to the satisfaction of the Corpsmembers, program partners, and LCC management.

Ensures that assigned vehicle, tools, equipment, materials and supplies are maintained in good and safe working order. Responsible for submitting purchase orders requests for vehicle repairs, tools, equipment and other supplies as needed

Completes and submits all required forms and reports (e.g. Workers Comp, Corpsmember evaluations and disciplinary forms, daily work log/report, vehicle logs, receipts, equipment repair orders) are completed and submitted as required to supervisor.

Safely transports Corpsmembers to and from worksites throughout Fresno County and surrounding counties in LCC vehicle; ability to connect and safely pull trailers such as a gooseneck, dual axle trailer, etc.

Travels for agency business using reliable transportation.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED.


EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of four (4) years paid work experience related to construction and demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.

Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience required.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Physical Examination – Physician clearance required.

Familiar with standard inventory practices, effectively minimizing loss of tools, equipment, supplies and materials.

Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within sixty (60) days of employment.

Ability to become certified to teach and certify Corpsmembers in industrial recognized certifications such as Home Builder’s Institute (HBI), OSHA, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), Forklift, etc.

Demonstrated interest in and dedication to serving the community; a basic understanding of poverty, its causes and conditions and impact on individuals and communities is essential.

Demonstrated experience in training and supervising Corpsmembers on proper use, handling, and maintenance of job-related vehicle, tools, equipment, supplies, and materials.

Demonstrated experience in training on customer service skills. Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with Corpsmembers, staff and management in a professional manner.

Strong organizational ability. Goal orientated; possess ability to structure workload to meet deadlines.

Demonstrated experience in developing, leading and maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

Demonstrated experience in leading and effectively supervising an ethnically diverse population of unskilled young adults with multiple barriers to employment.

Ability to be a leader and a positive role model for Corpsmembers; be actively involved and supportive of their career tech training and educational goals.

Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching Corpsmembers to resolve behavioral issues and other barriers to their career tech field training and other corps requirements; implement disciplinary measures when needed within the guidelines of the LCC Corpsmember Handbook.

Ability to satisfactorily pass criminal background checks including but not limited to California Department of Justice and FBI.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.

Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

Willing to work non-traditional hours and days to meet the needs of this position.

COVID-19 vaccination required within 60 days of hire, unless approved for religious or medical exemption.

Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, adequate auto insurance as required by State law, and insurability by agency carrier for those driving agency vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extremely hot temperatures. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to and required to walk on uneven rough and uneven terrain-construction sites, loading docks, alleyways, driveways, stairs, ramps, gravel and dirt areas, steep unpaved inclines, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
