Under the direction of the Principal Safety Engineer (Elevators) with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Elevator Unit, the Senior Safety Engineer (Elevators) supervises a team of office support staff and Safety Engineers and manages the administration and enforcement of the Elevator Safety Orders (ESO) within an office unit. The Senior Safety Engineer (Elevators) ensures that the office functions and operates daily in accordance with Elevator Unit Policy and Procedures, DIR-DOSH directives, rules and policies.

Working Conditions
This position is located at: 224 Airport Pkwy, Suite 350, San Jose, CA 95110.
Primarily working in an office that requires prolonged sitting using a computer and telephone. Field work would consist of ascending/descending elevator shafts, standing, crouch, reach, lifting/carrying 25 lbs. of work equipment or materials Traveling via private vehicle, State vehicle, or public transportation (i.e. automobile, airplane, etc.) including occasional overnight travel.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of: Elevator Safety Orders and other applicable codes as it applies to conveyances under the jurisdiction of the Elevator Unit; proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials are free of any errors; proper written communication skills to review written reports submitted by staff to ensure that it is complete, concise, and free of writing errors. Skills: proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word and Outlook) required in preparation of general correspondence; excellent organizational skills insuring efficient tasking of work; excellent written and verbal communication skills with regard to Elevator Unit business, directing the public in resolving compliance issues and navigating website. Ability to: plan, prioritize, and organize work activities to meet target dates and production goals; evaluate reports to determine the necessary actions to be taken; obtain and apply information, and resources needed for resolution of compliance issues; resolve conflicts between personnel and/or the public timely, fairly, and with tact; read and evaluate written correspondence of varying levels of complexity insuring uniformity in the enforcement of the policies and procedures in the Elevator Unit. Possession of a valid California Driver's License and car insurance .
