POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Project Manager, Process Improvement, works on the FFG program management team with emphasis on planning, organizing, and monitoring aspects of the FFG program in search of maximizing return on investment by gaining efficiencies. This work includes, but is not limited to, reviewing and analyzing program requirements and information, chairing meetings/devising agendas, and making decisions, researching available technologies or capabilities, preparing proposals, managing subcontracts, producing required periodic reports, and developing briefings and other material necessary to communicate Program Manager guidance and recommendations. The individual is expected to have an ability to read, interpret, and clearly present complex information; interact with customers, partners, and colleagues; listen well; keep the senior leadership team well-informed; and, resolve issues identified by stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Position will involve regular interaction with all levels of FMM's operations/senior staff, customers regulatory bodies, and major suppliers.
  • Collects and develops documents and data for submission to the customer. Additonally the Senior Project Manager will track and manage the submissions from other departments to ensure compliance with the contract.
  • Oversees the preparation of associated reports, charts, and graphs on program, project, or contract status; makes presentations to senior management to keep them apprised.
  • Has excellent written and verbal skills to interface with all levels of the organization through the attendance of meetings and written memos.
  • Assists in the preparation of a Manufacturing/Construction Plan that complies with the cost proposal and contract specifications.
  • Provides assistance to technical/operations staff, coordinating efforts with contracts/subcontracts, cost estimating, corporate accounting and human resource staffs to assess impact of contract change notices, engineering change proposals, etc.
  • Maintains/monitors management control requirements for designated contracts, programs, projects and/or tasks. Analyzes and reviews all cost (time, materials, and equipment) information and data to ensure all phases of the statement of work are included.
  • Support the assessment of financial impact of project status to budget.
  • Assists in preparation of completion cost estimates (EACs), projections on funding, estimate on margins, and other planned reports.
  • Monitors performance to contracts, oversees contract compliance, and support negotiations with the customer on contract change proposals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates degree (or equivalent years of relevant education) and 8-10 years of experience, or a Bachelors degree and 6-8 years of experience, or a Masters degree and 4-6 years of experience. Degree requirements are to be satisfied with a degree from an accredited college or university. Experience requirements can be met by work done in the following fields: project management, administration, management control, accounting, contract/subcontract or other analytical role. Major Defense Industry experience a plus, background in the maritime sector preferred.
SKILLS:
  • Works well individually, or as a team, within a functional matrix organization
  • Must possess strong cross-functional team management skills
  • Must be familiar with manaufacturing processes
  • Must demonstrate Process Improvement skills and experience in innovation
  • Must be conversant with DFAR and FAR and Contracts
  • Must have working knowledge of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Must have strong customer service and negotiation skills
  • Must have contract and sub-contract vendor relation skills
  • Must have successful problem resolution skills
  • Must have the ability to read/analyze program metrics
  • Must have cost, schedule, and program management skills
  • Must have an understanding of risk/opportunity management
  • Must have an understanding of change management
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills, specifically MS Excel and MS Powerpoint
  • Must have experience with an ERP System
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality
