Job Description
The STEM Instructor plans and implements a STEM-focused academic enrichment curriculum in Gads Hill Center’s teen program. The instructor collaborates with the After School Matters (ASM) team on the teen program. The instructor plans to engage in STEM-focused activities that broaden the exposure of high school students to STEM concepts and careers. In addition, the STEM Instructor leads the agency’s participation in the FIRST Tech Challenge and ensures competitive participation. The instructor also cooperates with all the requirements of After School Matters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies appropriate STEM education resources and, under the guidance of the Youth Programs Manager, plans and implements program curricula.
- Implements STEM activities and ensures that students at various grade and skill levels are challenged appropriately.
- Engage students in the FIRST Robotics Challenge, leveraging local volunteer support and fielding a competitive team. Oversees all aspects of the FIRST Robotics project.
- Plans and leads appropriate STEM field trips in collaboration with YSD Youth Workers.
- Provide regular written and oral reports on the program as assigned.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all Gads Hill Center employees are responsible for the following:
1. Participate in agency outreach and recruitment events, including evenings and weekends.
2. Participate in supervision meetings and workshops within the agency and ASM.
3. Participates in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of Gads Hill Center.
4. Advance parent leadership development.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree in science education or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Previous out-of-school time program experience preferred.
3. Experience with multi-cultural programming preferred.
4. Previous direct classroom or family support experience with low-income families.
5. Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural Spanish/English preferred.
6. Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills.
7. Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
8. A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
9. Must have a valid Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
