Performs heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work in the construction, maintenance and repair of county property, systems, structures and equipment.Assists in assigning, monitoring tasks and projects of skilled trades workers; coordinates timetable with assigned personnel to ensure timely completion of assigned projects.Performs maintenance and repairs on commercial, residential gas and electric HVAC equipment to include split systems, package, freeze, cooler, Liebert units, boilers, chillers, handlers, VAV's, and cool & hot water loops, control valves, flow valves, and all other related equipment. Performs electrical maintenance and repairs to low- and high-voltage pumps, motors, circuit boards, control systems and all other HVAC related equipment. Performs unit change outs and duct work for new installs, remodels, and retrofits from start to finish including, sizing and planning, code compliance and system layout for all types of HVAC equipment.Performs maintenance and repairs on all duct types to include metal, flex, and duct board type material for low- and high-pressure supply duct, return platforms, ventilation, and exhaust systems.Performs maintenance and repairs of ice machines.Reads blueprint drawings, diagrams and sketches.Assists with the planning, estimating, and coordination tasks.Operates a variety of specialized trade-specific tools and equipment (i.e., diagnostic instruments, trade-specific meters and gauges) and hand-held manual, electrical, and gas-powered tools and equipment.Ensures all work performed adheres to established safety standards, building codes and regulations and engineering standards where applicable.Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools, and vehicles according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
Reports any detected deterioration, repair needs and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.Performs calculations (i.e., measuring angles and distances, calculating square footage).Performs various record maintenance duties as required (i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs).Performs general tasks of other trades as needed.Performs related duties as required.Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years of specific experience that provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled tasks in the HVAC trade to include but not limited to knowledge and experience in computer automated HVAC and generator controls; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and/or Certifications: Certification in Freon/Refrigerant Handling and Recovery is required. Requires a valid driver license.
May require a valid, Class 'B', commercial driver license (CDL) depending on assignment; if required, CDL must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas- powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 150 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and/or working in confined spaces. Requires excellent equilibrium to prevent falling from narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
