The Role
The Senior Execution Controls Engineer is responsible for Program Execution for Machine Controls and Robotics. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
In this role your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolve.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
New program implementation/execution (SOR prep, forecasting, controls/robotics design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff)
Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.
Manage deliveries to program timing milestones.
Manage expenditures for processes and/or equipment.
Provide project report outs to senior management.
Existing program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.)
Provide technical direction to less experienced Controls Engineers.
Design and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems
Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.
Identify and document system vulnerabilities and craft mitigation action plans; track corrective actions.
Travel as required.
Work may require off shift support.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
5+ years of experience as a controls/robotics engineer
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent experience/training
Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.
Experience in PLC and HMI programming as well as network communication.
Experience with CNC machines and Powertrain processes.
Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives.
Experience in Fanuc robot's setup and programming.
Problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required.
Ability to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems.
Proven ability in project management skills
Multiple different manufacturing controls and/or robotics assignments with successful individual achievements
Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
Knowledge of GM Standards for hardware and software (GCCH & GCCS).
CNC experience.
Understanding of GMS and 4 walls within the site or program
Prior work experience as Controls Engineer in the automotive and/or Powertrain field
Cognex and Matrox Vision System Programming experience
