Job Description

At Eurofins EAG Laboratories, we set the global standard for materials testing services. We offer a consultative, multi-disciplinary approach to solving our clients’ materials and engineering-related product problems. Now with the support from our parent company, Eurofins Scientific, a multi-billion-dollar global leader in scientific services with a portfolio of over 200,000 validated analytical methods, EAG is expanding our presence in the battery industry to help accelerate the energy storage revolution.

You will be at the forefront of building a new battery testing lab for our SF Bay Area location. As Technical Leader will be responsible for:

  • Design, perform and train analysts electrochemical testing including the most complex tests, ensuring schedule and performance requirements are met and that the technical quality meets standards.  
  • Design, perform and train analysts on battery teardown.
  • Design, perform and train analysts materials characterization, working with fellow scientists.
  • Interpret electrochemical testing and materials characterization results and explain to colleagues and clients.
  • Manage projects and interact with clients to help solve problems using internal resources.
Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have:

  • PhD in science and/or technology fields with 2+ years of relevant experience OR MS plus 5+ years OR BS plus 8+ years specifically related experience.   
  • 5+ years academic and industry experience in lithium-ion battery research, development and testing. 
  • Fluency in electrochemical testing and operational knowledge battery test hardware.
  • Deep understanding in lithium ion battery principles and failure mechanisms
  • Ability to think logically, navigate quickly in new situations, and analyze data.
  • Strong understanding in microscopy and materials characterization techniques.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills 
  • Able to integrate concepts from existing technical documents in order to independently compose own documents.  
  • Able to extract relevant information from a lab notebook to include in technical summary report.   
  • Has an established positive professional persona and reputation which remains intact during times of conflict.  
  • Uses this professional brand to inspire others to maintain a positive attitude.  
  • Consistently takes on new responsibility with proven success.  
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and demonstrated high level of organization.
  • Able to effectively plan projects and time in advance.  

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.   
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office or laboratory to access file cabinets, machinery, equipment etc.
  • Able to remain in a stationary standing position up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Able to lift and move lab equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Able to use glove box gloves to operate various lab equipment and conduct lab procedures.
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

Additional Information

Compensation Range: $120,000-$135,000  (Salary is commensurate with experience and degree of technical expertise.)
