Are you ready to rise to the challenge of climate change with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is a U.S. technology and manufacturing company that is developing and commercializing pioneering energy storage technologies to enable the electric grid to run on 100% renewable energy, every day of the year.

Supported by leading investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, ArcelorMittal, TPG Rise, MIT’s The Engine, and others, we share a common belief that low-cost, multi-day energy storage is the key to enable tomorrow’s zero carbon electric grid. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, we are deeply motivated and inspired to create a better world. We need talented, hardworking individuals who share our goal of tackling the challenge of climate change. Do you want to work with us today to build a better tomorrow?

Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Battery Test Engineer to join the Test Development team. As part of this team, you will be integral in proving out our full scale cell and battery module performance. You will be invested in developing and contributing towards the hardware and software of our test capabilities, and supporting our operations team in keeping our tests online. We are a hands-on team who all love diving into hard problems, such as test troubleshooting, and then designing out these problems for future tests. If you’re looking for an opportunity to roll up your sleeves and have a direct impact on the development of a groundbreaking technology, read on!

What you'll do:

  • Develop comprehensive test plans for full-scale battery systems and modules, considering factors such as performance, safety, and reliability.

  • Lead the integration, commissioning, and sustaining of Battery Tests, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project timelines.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including product development, battery performance, test operations, test infrastructure and manufacturing to understand test requirements and address any technical challenges.

  • Implement automation solutions to streamline the commissioning of new tests and improve testing efficiency.

  • Monitor the performance of Battery Tests and troubleshoot issues as they arise, implementing corrective actions to maintain test continuity.

  • Generate detailed reports and data visualizations using Grafana to communicate test results and insights to internal stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of test processes and methodologies, incorporating industry best practices and emerging technologies.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Software, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Proven experience in Battery Testing, preferably with lithium-ion battery systems.

  • Strong understanding of battery performance characteristics, including capacity, voltage, and cycle life, and familiarity with industry standards and regulations (eg. IEEE)

  • Proficiency in test automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ladder Logic, SQL) for test automation.

  • Experience with SQL-based data visualization tools such as Grafana.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, all within a fast-paced startup environment

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly and concisely.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
