We are looking for a highly motivated battery technician to join the Energy Storage & Power Systems (ESPS) team. As a battery technician you will support research, design, manufacturing and testing teams with test article preparation, test execution and repairs of our next generation battery system.
Why we need you:
    • Batteries for electric propulsion are very novel and complex, so they require extensive testing to validate and verify designs. We need an experienced battery technician to lead the test implementation and maintenance throughout the test article life cycle. You will support creation of test fixtures, execute test procedures and provide feedback to the design teams. The successful candidate will be proactive, self-motivated, hands-on and a driver for best safety practices.
What you will do:
    • Work closely with a cross functional team to develop test requirements, plans and procedures
    • Assemble cell test articles and operate the cell test stands under the direction of cell development engineers
    • Perform component test equipment setup, operation, cleaning, testing, and process checks to ensure reliable and consistent functionality
    • Execute test campaigns of battery components and systems, including performance, thermal, environmental, end-of-line acceptance, and certification
    • Review schematics and datasheets of various electrical components and hardware on the battery pack from internal teams and external vendors
    • Maintain test fixtures, configuration management, calibration log and upgrade them with the latest hardware and software versions
    • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical and software issues during testing
    • Work consistently in controlled, "clean room" environment while wearing required protective equipment
    • Maintain records on work performed, analyze data collected, and report results
    • Use data collection to make well informed process improvements through corrective action
    • Develop test scripts and tools to automate testing and data post-processing on test stations to increase test cadence and ease operation 
    • Execute problem solving techniques to improve efficiency, quality, and safety
    • Coordinate and exchange findings with engineering personnel outside work group
    • Recommend revisions to lab processes
    • Identify and eliminate operational waste through use of Lean manufacturing tools, and properly dispose of material waste
    • Adhere to and enforce the principles of safe work practices, Quality Management System, workplace organization and Lean process standards
    • Maintain good housekeeping, safety practices, and supplies
    • Actively participate in team/group Business Plan Deployment meetings
What you have done:
    • High school Diploma or GED
    • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
    • Competent in use of a voltmeter and other measuring tools/equipment
    • Experience with data acquisition devices (NI, SCADAS, Keysight) and transducers
    • Ability to safely/properly use hand tools/power tools as applicable
    • Knowledge and experience working with high voltage electrical systems (480VAC, 800VDC)
    • Hands-on experience supporting manufacture and assembly
    • Experience setting up tests for entirely new hardware
Desired:
    • 3+ years of testing experience with battery, energy storage or power systems
    • Knowledge of batteries, battery management systems and power electronics
    • Familiarity with aviation test standards including DO-311, DO-160 and MIL-810
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment
    • Experience with cooling systems
    • Ability to transport weights over 50 lbs
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

$43 - $51 an hour

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $43 - $51 per hour - The starting base hourly rate within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
