Job Description
Our Culture: Why work with us?
At Foghorn Therapeutics, we believe in “People First, Mission Always.”
We put “People First” because we know our people are the key to everything we will accomplish. We value the diversity of background, ideas, perspectives and experiences that our team members bring to Foghorn Therapeutics – demonstrated by our community speaking more than 22 languages and representing over 24 nationalities. We value our teammates as people, not just as employees – validated by our actions that let our people know that we care about them, their families, and their lives.
We say “Mission Always” because we know a relentless commitment to our mission will make a difference in the lives of others. We believe our success will come from evaluating the data to follow the science. We work hard to develop a new class of therapies that could improve the lives of over 2.5 million people with cancer.
Our culture is focused on succeeding through the evaluation of data, not people. And in that, relationships can flourish and develop.
Our Science:
The groundbreaking science behind our therapies continues to yield vital insights into diseases that have confounded physicians and researchers. Our core scientific approach is centered on the chromatin regulatory system, which opens and closes the right sections of DNA at the right time. Breakdowns in the chromatin regulatory system lead to a wide range of diseases, including cancer, impacting millions of people.
Our proprietary Gene Traffic Control® platform is a powerful tool for understanding and modulating the chromatin regulatory system. We are pursuing multiple treatments for breakdowns in this system. We are the only company with the ability to study and target the chromatin regulatory system at scale, in context, and in an integrated way.
The Role:
As a Computational Biologist, you will take the lead in driving the computational aspects of drug discovery projects. Your mission will be to identify biomarkers and uncover the mechanisms of drug action. You will work closely with experimental biologists, collaborating to define research questions and refine critical strategies to address them. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the team, continuously expand your knowledge of computational sciences, and gain a comprehensive understanding of drug discovery from various perspectives.
In This Role, You’ll Get To:
- Collaborate with the team to identify key scientific questions specific to the project and develop effective strategies to answer them.
- Utilize state-of-the-art multi-omics datasets to analyze and uncover novel biomarkers and mechanisms of drug action.
- Integrate large-scale datasets from both internal and external sources to gain unique insights into diseases.
- Work closely with scientists and teams across the organization to generate actionable predictions that can be tested in the lab or the clinic.
- Contribute to the enhancement of Computational Biology capabilities throughout the discovery organization.
Requirements
- PhD in one of the following fields: Computational Biology, bioinformatics, oncology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, or a related field.
- Demonstrate experience in effectively formulating and answering biological questions through computational analyses.
- Possess a strong understanding of statistical and algorithmic principles, with proficiency in using R or Python.
- Have the ability to work in multiple computing environments, including cloud-based platforms.
- Be familiar with the use of public genomic and proteomic databases, such as TCGA and Depmap.
- Familiarity with the biology of transcription and/or chromatin regulatory systems is preferred, but not required.
- In our interview process, we'll also be looking for some key soft skills that help our team thrive:
- Initiative and Independence: We appreciate those who take the lead on projects and think for themselves, but who also know when to seek guidance.
- Detail-Oriented Approach: It's great if you're careful and thorough in your work, paying attention to the little things that make a big difference.
- Organizational Skills: Being able to manage your time well and juggle various tasks smoothly will be a big plus.
- Clear Communication: We're interested in your ability to explain things in a simple and understandable way, especially when it comes to technical details, to both our team and clients.
