The Minerals team is seeking a Safety & Training Manager to join our growing Mining team! This position will report directly to the Minerals Site Service Manager and support all our Florida and Georgia locations.
Responsible for providing leadership, technical support, policy management and oversight for the safety and training teams, as well as lead improvement initiatives. Works with mining and mineral processing facilities operating 24-hours per day, 7-days per week to maintain a healthy and safe working environment in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Duties will include direct management of the minerals Safety and Training Specialist, support/lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to improve performance and reduce incidents and monitoring the health of company employees through sampling and general observation methods. Developing a culture where safety and training is integrated at all levels will determine success in this position.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support all health and safety programs, including inspections/audits, industrial hygiene, accident investigation/reporting and regulatory compliance programs.
- Directly manage Safety & Training Specialist.
- Work in a self-guided manner in the absence of supervision and demonstrate creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.
- Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and lead safety investigations.
- Monitor and proactively report safety and training performance.
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all operating areas.
- Maintain visibility while providing coaching and guidance to Company and Contractor employees.
- Ensure that personnel training requirements are identified and completed.
- Manage MSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Attend meetings and classes as identified by the Company.
The following is required for this role:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field preferred or minimum 5 years of experience in a mining, heavy manufacturing or construction related safety environment required OR equivalent military experience.
- Must have knowledge of MSHA standards and occupational health laws; CSP, CHST or CMSP certification preferred.
- Experience with safety and training processes and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data, identify solutions, assess risk factors, and make sound business decisions.
- Proven strong oral and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively from senior management to plant level employees.
- Requires people management skills including the ability to establish trust, motivate, and train team members.
The following is preferred for this role:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to facilitate collaboration among team members and stakeholders
- Capability to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose solutions to improve mining processes
- High level understanding of mining industry, processes, equipment, and terminology to comprehend project requirements and challenges
