Safety Coordinator
General Job Description
A Site Safety Coordinator is designated to perform any type of safety operations or duties and shall demonstrate competency in safety and have specific training and/or experience and knowledge in applicable federal, state, and municipal safety and health standards. The Safety Coordinator is required to assist the company in maintaining a safe workplace, the implementation of the policies outlined in the corporate Health & Safety Program, and ensure implementation and enforcement of all safety procedures specific to the assigned job site.
Safety Coordinators shall be responsible for maintaining safety and health, compliance as applicable, monitoring employee and supervisory safety practices and behavior, inspecting and evaluating for employee exposure to potential hazards and reporting the results to the Manager of Safety.
Other responsibilities of the Site Safety Coordinator shall include, but not be limited to:
- Protect the interest and welfare of the company, its employees, assets, and the general public through the identification, evaluation, and control of hazards and hazardous behavior within the workplace of the company.
- Represent the company with professionalism and utilize all safety skills towards educating, advising, and counseling all employees and supervisors concerning the reduction of accidents and injuries in the workplace and managing/controlling unnecessary loss.
- Actively and enthusiastically promote the company's safety and health programs by setting an example through personal behavior and conduct at all times.
- Resolve safety questions and prescribe or take the appropriate remedial action necessary to correct unsafe conditions.
- Make regular facility/job site safety inspections and audits to observe for safe work practices, and to ensure that unsafe conditions are not present in the workplace.
- Conduct effective safety and health awareness training on a routine basis for all levels of the workforce under your jurisdiction and ensure all employees receive appropriate job-specific safety training.
- Personally perform selective safety inspections and review safety reports of unsafe conditions reported by employees, supervisors and others. Take follow-up action by making or obtaining corrections to maintain a safe workplace.
- Ensure compliance with all safe work practices, safety rules, policies and procedures of the company and its customers. Make appropriate disciplinary action recommendations to the Site Supervisor or Manager and report such recommendations to the Director of Safety.
This position is a 3 -month temporary project.
