Reporting Relationship: Reports to Director of Childcare Services
Primary Accountability:
Gove County Early Learning Center Rotating Lead Dietary Specialist will spend time in both the classroom and the kitchen setting. While in the classroom this person will be able to implement and assist in activities and experiences, for all classrooms and ages, in accordance with facility curriculum and philosophy in order to foster learning in all areas of early brain development. In addition to classroom time, duties will include, but are not limited to: cleanliness, organization and sanitation of the facilities as well as assistance in lesson plan preparations and clean up. While in the kitchen this person will be able to plan, prepare, serve and accurately track all meals and snacks served within the child care facilities while working with GCMC's dietary department. Meals and snacks served will adhere to food program guidelines for both sites, be nutritious, fresh, taste good, offer variety and accommodate allergies.
Major Classroom Duties:
• Form a solid working relationship with all staff throughout both childcare facilities. Be able to communicate openly, honestly and productively with all staff in regards to function of the facilities as well as care for all children.
• Form solid connections with children throughout the facilities and their families. Be able to communicate openly, honestly and productively with all families on a daily basis as needed. Complete thorough and accurate electronic daily records and assessments as delegated.
• Implement daily activities in any classroom to help support early brain development in the following areas of early learning:
o Social Emotional
o Cognitive Development
o Large Motor
o Small Motor
o Sensory
o Art/Creativity
o Language
• Implement daily activities in any classroom that incorporate the following:
o A balance of active and quiet times
o Both large and small group activities
o Indoor and outdoor play
o Free and organized play times
o Meal times, snacks and tooth brushing
o Naptime
• Be able to act as Lead Teacher in any classroom, in either facility, upholding the standards of Lead Teacher for a time period determined by the Director.
• Assist in keeping all classrooms, work spaces and basement clean, sanitized and organized.
• Be able to administer medication properly with accurate documentation.
• Be able to handle behavioral issues in all classrooms with consistency and compassion supporting implemented self-regulation skills by Lead Teacher that are in conjunction with the facilities philosophy.
• Be able to maintain consistent classroom schedules for all classrooms in order to support structure and security for kid's facility wide.
• Toilet train and change diapers in accordance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations and facility protocol.
• Ability to multi-task various demands, alternating between teaching and organization/prep fluidly throughout the day, using your time productively asking and/or delegating when assistance is needed and completing tasks thoroughly.
• Assist in general housekeeping tasks following proper cleaning protocol.
• Report to Director any concerns you may have in regards to the facility or care of children including, but not limited to: maintenance issues, suspected illness, child abuse or neglect and/or hazards in play areas in a timely manner.
• Be punctual, reliable and flexible with hours scheduled.
• Be able to implement monthly emergency drills of fire, evacuation and inclement weather with accurate record keeping. Be able to act should an emergency situation arise, in a calm and appropriate manner.
• Consistently uphold all Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations for both licensed facilities, helping maintain survey readiness at all times.
• Complete required yearly in-service hours in a timely manner and provide proper documentation for personnel file.
• Follow all Gove County Medical Center and Gove County Early Learning Center policies at all times.
• Uphold all expectations outlined by Director.
Major Kitchen Duties:
• Keep kitchen, appliances, cabinets and any other food related work spaces clean, sanitized, stocked with necessary supplies, and organized.
• Order healthy foods from the dietary department or pick up from the local grocery store weekly to provide a variety of meal and snack options for the children while working with the child care food budget. Complete food purchase orders with receipts in a timely manner and submit to hospital for proper signatures and payment.
• Utilize the Gove County Medical Center kitchen, their resources and purchasing options when looking at pricing and bulk food purchases. Adhere to all of the regulations outline for the dietary department when entering it for any reason.
• Work with the dietary department to complete accurate and thorough menus, that include breakfast and two snacks prepared and served by ELC staff and lunch prepared by dietary, served by ELC staff.
• Complete accurate food production logs as applicable, maintaining organized food labels and food related enrollment paperwork as necessary. Be diligent and stay on top of daily, monthly and yearly paperwork.
• Food service, food/meals offered for all ages of children, kitchen set up and paperwork should be survey ready at all times and meet Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Sunshine Connections and the Child and Adult Food Program regulated guidelines at all times as applicable.
• Check appliance temperatures regularly.
• Prepare and transport food when meals are served off site, maintaining all onsite regulations. Maintain food safety temps during transportation and service preparation.
• Be able to utilize a variety of kitchen appliances, tools and utensils to assist in all areas of meal service. Communicate with Director of Child Care Services when items are in need of replacement or repair.
• Be aware of all food allergies and appropriate substitutions should one need to be made. Label all menus and preparation notes with food allergies and highlight so all staff is aware of substitutions made in order to ensure the safety of all children.
• Work with Director and Gove County Medical Center Dietician should assistance be needed to make meal accommodations and or meet new regulations.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of (3) three months' experience within the facility preferred but not required, on the job training and observations provided for qualified employees.
• Have the desire to help children grow, learn and explore in all areas of early childhood development.
• Have the desire to help maintain an organized, clean environment for both teachers and administrators alike.
• Have the desire to provide healthy, tasty, pleasant appearance meals for children of all ages in both child care facilities.
• Complete KBI comprehensive and finger print background check.
• CPR and First Aid certified or complete courses within first 30 days of employment.
• Have completed or able to complete 18 hours of initial early childhood required trainings per Kansas Department of Health and Environment regulations.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, squat, kneel, climb, crawl and move freely without hindrances.
• Read computer screens, mail, email, and talk on the phone.
• Ability to hear clearly.
• Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
• Ability to perform CPR and administer first aide.
• Minimal travel is expected for this position; usually only in the case of continuing education.
Work Environment:
• Majority of employment will be in a child care center or group home daycare environment.
• Minimum amounts of time in professional hospital setting.
• Subject to frequent interruptions and last minute changes.
• Will work with Director, co-workers, families and children 2 weeks-12 years of age.
• Hours subject to change due to status of families being served.
• Subject to varying emotions and behaviors from children and their families.
