LEAD TEACHER
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Early Education Director, the Lead Teacher provides direction for the classroom and staff. Implements program curriculum in the classroom. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
The ideal candidate must meet the Kansas Licensing requirement for the Lead Teacher Position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Complete 16 in-service training hours per year as required by state regulations.
- Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Design and implement age-appropriate daily lesson/activity plans.
- Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks, and meals
- Supervise children, classroom, staff, members, parents, and all activities.
- Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
- Make ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Properly fill out the necessary paperwork.
- Behavior management in accordance with YMCA and state regulations.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, clean learning environment daily.
- Attend any staff meetings and training required by the YMCA.
- Greet all participants and consistently demonstrate professional conduct.
- All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 and have a valid driver’s license.
- Must stay within Kansas Department of Health and Environment licensing regulations.
- Ability to develop activities that are fun and educational for young children
- Ability to instruct young children in rules of conduct and to learn new tasks
- Ability to select the appropriate teaching method and adapt to children’s learning styles
- Ability to build good relationship/communication skills with adults and children.
- Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
- Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, TB test within 30 days of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and judgment skills.
- Bring maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with families to this position.
- Ability to handle irate, complaining, or demanding individuals
- Able to make sound judgments and decisions, even when distracted by noise or activity.
- Must have a signed health assessment stating no physical or mental limitations working with children within 30 days of hire.
- Understand diverse family dynamics, their needs, and the needs of at-risk children.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must regularly lift up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
- Able to sit, stand, and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods.
- Work in different temperature environments.
- Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise them with daily activities, social
- interaction, physical, and emotional needs.
- Ability to interact and participate in gross motor activities with the children.
