POSITION SUMMARY
Perform duties under the general supervision of the center Director or the Assistant Director. Assistance and guidance is available, but the Lead has a great deal of flexibility in selecting, altering and improving activities. The Lead is expected to use initiative and creativity in accomplishing goals and objectives. Work is reviewed in terms of results and adherence to established standards and procedures. Able to teach the ABeka, Pinnacle or most current curriculum. Ability to provide a schedule for a balance between child-choice and teacher directed activities, quiet and active time, and inside and outside play.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
- Observe and monitor to insure the safety and well being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and /or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
- Recognizing and encouraging appropriate behaviors, enforcing limits and rules consistently and fairly, and explaining the consequences of inappropriate behaviors.
- Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring them to the attention of the Director.
- Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, incidents, behaviors, and medications administered.
- Instruct children in health and personal habits such as.
- Helps children to develop self-help skills such as eating, resting, and toilet habits.
- Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
- Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games, programs, parent night out, and any other related things pertaining to the child care facility.
- Assist in preparing food for children and serve meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods.
- Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in the classroom as well as cleaning and sanitizing toys, cots, and play equipment.
- Help children with homework and school work.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, and changing of linens.
- Accompany children to and from different areas in the school, on field trips, and on the playground.
- Always walk the playground area to make sure there is no glass, animals, snakes, etc. that would be a danger to the children.
- Ensures that care given is in compliance with child development standards as outlined in applicable regulations.
- Arrange room and play materials to accommodate the daily schedule. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.
- Assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the supervisor.
- Maintains an accurate count of children in their care.
- Conducts daily health checks of children. Notifies the supervisor or center director of any marks other signs that might indicate a suspicion of illness, abuse or neglect.
- Creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for children. Ensures the safety and sanitation of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, etc.
- Completes and submits required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Coordinate teacher conferences with parents.
- Helps children collect their belongings when they depart. Ensures that each child leaves with his or her parent. Asks for proper identification when someone other than the parent is authorized to take the child.
- Attends staff meetings and training.
- Ensures that care is provided in compliance with child development standards as outlined in applicable regulations. Continually reviews activities and plans for appropriateness.
- Recommends changes or additions to policies and procedures when it is needed.
- Develops activities and plans consisting of elements of mathematical and letter concepts, language development, art, music, science, social studies, health and physical education. Submits for approval to the center director.
- Supervise child program assistants.
- Provides training and instruction to subordinates.
- Plans and conducts parent involvement activities and encourages parents to become involved.
- Recommends purchase of material, equipment and furnishings for activity rooms to the center director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Closing the classroom: Each teacher is responsible for sweeping their floor each evening, emptying their trash from their room and filling their soap bottles. At the end of the day make sure you turn out the lights. The lights are on automatic but sometimes they do not go off as quickly as they should.

Education
Must have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and an Associate’s Degree or CDA in Early Childhood Education.
Experience
Three to four years related experience with working with children in a childcare environment.

CPR/First Aid, 18 hour course Foundations Child Abuse & Neglect w/Head Trauma, Child Development, Safe Sleep, Signs & Symptoms of Childhood Illnesses, and 12.5 hours of observations
Other Requirements
Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Staff members are required to accumulate twelve hours of continuing education on a yearly basis.
