About the role:
This is a Robotics/Controls Engineer role that will require an organized individual who is eager to learn, enjoys working in a team, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. A can-do attitude and willingness to jump in and get things done is critical. The primary objectives involve the ongoing development of in-house software packages and the integration of third-party software to enhance the existing system’s capabilities. This includes, but is not limited to, gathering functional requirements, defining system functionality, and producing code.

Robotics/Controls EngineerJob Description
FLSA Status: Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time.
Job Summary: The primary role of the Robotics/Controls Engineer is the ongoing development of in-house software packages and the integration of third-party software to enhance the existing system’s capabilities. Some domestic and international travel may be required to support customer-related activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Salary Range: $120,000 to $140,000 Annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, improve, and test software systems, namely user interfaces.
- Interface with third-party software to enhance the current capabilities.
- Produce clean, high-quality, and testable code and generate documentation.
- Participate in field testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity.
- Demonstrate ability to build professional relationships through mutual trust, transparency, and empathy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Strong development skills in C++, ROS, QT, and UI design experience in Windows and Linux environments.
- Knowledgeable in software revision control and product documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Demonstrate ability to perform work competently, credibly, and professionally.
- Adept at managing and prioritizing a high volume of tasks with different time demands.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Includes balancing a quick turnaround with long-term quality.
- Detail-oriented and exercise ability to follow directions.
- Highly proactive, self-motivated, and innovative.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense clearance as required.
- Must be technically proficient using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be familiar with underwater sensors, technologies, and concepts of operations.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor/Master’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field.
- Experience designing, developing, and implementing modular software.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
- Strong C++ software development skills.
- UI designing experience.
- Experience with Qt and/or C# is a plus.
- Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) and various autonomy architectures is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Ability to be mobile as related to business needs.
- The ability to lift 60 lbs. occasionally.
- In Office, San Diego, CA.
- Available for occasional domestic and international travel.
- Valid passport to allow travel internationally.
- Reliable means of transportation to report to work.
