An exciting and challenging opportunity awaits a self-motivated and active individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the position of Park Manager at T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. The selected candidate for this position will need to possess good supervisory skills, as well as knowledge, skills and abilities in all areas of park service management including administration, maintenance, resource management, visitor services, and protection.

The St. Joseph Peninsula is known for its sandy white beaches and tall dunes on the Gulf of Mexico side and marsh on the St. Joseph Bay side. The park, teeming with wildlife, provides vitally important habitat for beach nesting birds (including the snowy plover), three species of sea turtles and two remaining core populations of endangered St. Andrews beach mouse. Visitors enjoy overnight stays in the 46-site Shady Pines campground, eight cabins and 14 primitive campsites in the Wilderness Preserve. The park is ideal for getting away, swimming, fishing, enjoying Florida’s Gulf Coast and watching spectacular sunsets.

Pay:

Base salary $3,564.74 per month $42,776.81 annual


Your Specific Responsibilities:


Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.


ADMINISTRATION – Implements and enforces all laws, rules, operating policies, leases, agreements, and permits pertaining to this area. Provides for employee slection training, supervision, and discipline. Adminsters the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Prepares multi-fund budget requests, provides for effective expenditure of appropriations, aupersvises the collection of fees, is responsible for all facility and equipment inventories, and implements established policies for fiscal control and accountablility. Ensures preparation and implementation of work schedules and assignments for the stafff. Manages concession and service contracts. Assists in development and management of grants. Sets realistic park goals and schedules and coordinates effectively to achieve.


VISITOR SERVICESImplements and supervises interpretive programs. Meets the public, interprets the area’s resources, facilities, and services; resolves visitor complaints; and provies for good public relations. Works cooperatively with a variety of governmental agencies, media groups, Citizens Support Organizations, and other community service groups. Oversee and direct fund raising efforts on behalf of the park and in cooperation with the park CSO. This will include the development of grant applications, fund proposals and development activities witht eh park CSO. In addition to paid meetings and functions and ensures that the CSO is kept informed about all park issues and developments on an ongoing basis.


RESOURCE MANAGEMENTImplements and guides the resource management plan for park units including ecolgoical burning, water manipulation, nativ species propagation, erosoion control, and exotic plant and animal removal. Operate various vehicles and equipment to assess resource management needs and oversee ecological burns. Ensures that the parks’ natural and cultural resources are managed to ensure the restoration and preservation of the resources in the park.


MAINTENANCE – Identifies and plans maintenance needs and provides management of the staff to maintain the facilities and support equipment for efficient operation of park units. Operates various vehicles between areas to assess maintenance needs and oversee operatiosn. Ensures that the parks’ facilites and grounds are maintained to a high level of public expectations.


PROTECTION– Ensures park rules are envforced pertaing to all natural, historical and archaeological facilties and reosources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.


OTHERPerforms other related duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge of:

  • Florida Park Service (FPS) and DEP policies and procedures
  • Management of contracts and use agreements
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for public facilities
  • Natural and cultural resource management practicies and techniques to include prescrbied fire and invasive species control
  • Carpentry, electrcial, plumbing and mechanical

Skill In:

  • Personnel management
  • Providing quality visitor services and customer relations

ABILITY TO:

  • Implement and enforce all laws, rules, operating policies, directives, leases, agreements, and permits pertaining to areas managed
  • Select new employees and effectively supervise staff
  • Ensureing that effective traninign is provided, and disciplinary measures are performed when necessary
  • Communicate verbally and in writing in a constructive way
  • Effeiciently set prioriteis and coordinate with others to acheieve goals
  • Facilitate positive working rleionships both within and outside the FPS
  • Maintian effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and community interest groups
  • Administer the terms of the collective maintneance and safety program
  • Apply for grants
  • Schedule program and participation in envents promoting the areas managed in the FPS

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Driver’s License

Residency is required
