THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 3 collects time sensitive data for the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients followed at the University of Tennessee Cystic Fibrosis Care center. This position supports the Pediatric Pulmonology Division, including developing and maintaining research subject database and assisting in recruitment of study subjects. The Research Technician 3 reviews clinic notes, test results and other appropriate data and enters the data into a National Registry.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collects data on individual Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients: this pertains to clinic visits, hospitalizations, results on respiratory cultures, laboratory tests, pulmonary function tests as well as imaging studies.
- Reviews clinical notes, test results and other data entered into the CF registry.
- Enters data into the CF patient Registry for the University of Tennessee Cystic Fibrosis Care Center (Pediatric).
- Attends weekly CF clinic to obtain informed consent from patients/parents.
- Attends weekly meetings with CF team.
- Prepares study for IRB approval and monitors CITI training for all CF team members.
- Attends annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference in the fall each year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in one of the sciences (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of research laboratory experience; OR Master's Degree will be accepted in lieu of experience. Valid Driver's License is required. (Experience in IRB submission, grant preparation/submission, study recruitment, data base design/development, and the management/collection of data is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient on the computer, excellent written skills and verbal skills.
- Skill gathering clinical data pertaining to laboratory and radiological studies, as well as gathering data pertinent to the database for each clinical encounter (visit to CF clinic/ER visit/hospitalization)
- Ability to analyze medical data prior to entry into the database.
- Ability to check data for errors.
- Ability to compare current data point for a patient to previous data entered in the Registry.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may require occasional overnight travel.
