Job Title: Research technician and Lab Manager
The Suissa lab in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated research and Lab Manager to join our team (https://www.botaneelab.com/). The broad research of the lab aims to explore how the diversity of life evolved on our planet. Using ferns as a study system, we ask how organisms build their bodies, how they function, and how complex structures evolve across deep time. Beyond the lab, we apply our research and expertise in the field to communicate scientific knowledge to the broader community. The successful candidate will assist in research projects and manage laboratory operations. While the specific projects that the applicant works on will depend on their skills and interests, the broad responsibilities of research and Lab Manager include:
- Conducting laboratory and field experiments in plant histology, microscopy, and physiology.
- Collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, ordering materials, and keeping laboratory records.
- Contributing to the overall functioning of the lab, including organization, communication, and collaboration with other lab members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, evolution, ecology, or related field.
- Experience with microscopy, physiology, or other lab work is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Position details:
- Salary commensurate with experience based on university paygrades.
- Start date: May 2024.
- Funding is available for an initial 1 year with possibility of extension.
