The ARC Technician I provides for the daily care of rodent species in standard and specialized husbandry settings. This includes performing regularly scheduled cage changing in conventional and high density barrier housing areas, observing for abnormalities and maintaining adequate food and water supplies in enclosures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Execute assigned husbandry tasks with guidance (e.g., maintenance of holding & procedure rooms; routine sanitation; food and water supply & drug dosing management; scheduled cage changing).
- Perform routine techniques on animals (e.g., treatments, formalin fixation) as per defined guidelines.
- Assist in veterinary treatments on research models, special observations, and other study-directed requests.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.
- Escalate issues and problems according to set standards and SOPs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
Minimum Experience:
- Experience in veterinary care or veterinary facility or husbandry related field preferred.
- Some experience with disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and environmental microbiological analysis preferred.
- Some experience with changes in animal health conditions preferred.
- Some experience operating animal caging and sanitation equipment preferred.
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science within 18 months
