Job description

This position performs a vital role to ensure the fulfillment of the Culinary Services Department’s Mission “To make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day through exceptional customer service and outstanding food”. Responsible for preparing, assembling, delivering food trays and performs other related duties to achieve departmental goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Demonstrates friendly, caring attitude when taking menu selections or requests Ensures customer satisfaction is the outcome of all interactions. Utilizes appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills in all patient / customer interactions. Utilizes service recovery techniques.
  • Food, Beverage, and Supplies: Prepares, assembles, and delivers patient trays according to standards of preparation. Prepares patient snack bags. Prepares, assembles, and delivers meals to on campus housing according to standards of preparation. Stocks nurses stations with patient menus. Stocks Room Service area, inpatient, and outpatient nourishment rooms to meet established par levels. Requisitions supplies from storeroom and other areas according to guidelines.
  • Patient Services: Occasionally takes Room Service menu selections based on the prescribed diet order. Processes diet orders, nourishments, and updates patient nutrition information in Computrition. Communicates any diet updates and/or changes with appropriate staff. Ensures patient and family foodservice needs are being met. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Follows department sanitation and food safety policies and procedures when preparing patient/parent food/beverage items to meet regulatory compliance standards and prevent food borne illness. Maintains clean work environment. Follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines when handling food. Records and maintains appropriate temperature logs.
  • Operates St. Jude motor vehicle (golf cart) to deliver patient food and supplies across campus to patient housing area
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Minimum Experience:

Food service experience preferred. Direct hospital experience preferred

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • (LC: SERVSAFE) ServSafe Food Handler Training Certificate Program or another American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handler Training Certificate Program required within thirty (30) days of hire. Employee must maintain current certification during employment

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $19.00 - $30.00 per hour for the role of Room Service Technician.
