The Department of Technology, Management and Budget supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.
The DTMB’s Michigan Center for Data and Analytics (MCDA) is looking for a new Research Analyst in its Demography team. The analyst will contribute to an exciting portfolio of demographic analyses, using tools and statistical programs such as R to aggregate statistics and visualize trends for Michigan geographies. As a member of the Demography team, the analyst will play a central role in conducting research that directly informs state agencies, including the Executive Office of the Governor, Treasury, and Health and Human Services. Partners and customers also include regional and local leaders, businesses, non-profits, the media, and the general public. The analyst will develop analyses that turn data into actionable information to solve customer problems and assist partners in gaining a better understanding of Michigan’s demography, economy, and labor market. MCDA team members are curious individuals, quantitative analysts, proficient writers, and have a strong sense of public service and desire to serve Michigan. The current work schedule is hybrid with two days in the Lansing office and three days remote. Students graduating in December 2023 are welcome to apply.

Required Education and Experience

One year of professional experience.

Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions. 
 
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child. 
 
Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day. 
 
Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums. 
 
Military Pay Differential: Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
