Position Details
Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) work closely with our Dean's office and members of our course design team who facilitate the timely course development, ensuring content meets expectations. The SME designs the course, aligned to SHSU's mission and outcomes, for later delivery via asynchronous online instruction. As a result, this contract for the SME is independent of any potential teaching of the course. The Department and SHSU are committed to promoting a campus culture that embraces diversity and inclusion; the successful candidate is expected to advance this commitment.
Scope of work:
Time Commitment - The successful candidate will begin work immediately upon approval of all contracts. The time commitment for this project should be 9 months or less.
Development - A) Work with Project Manager and SHSU Online to adhere to pre-defined goals and development timelines. B) Identify and curate course materials, in support of learning outcomes, in the form of open educational resources (OER) or other widely accessible public supplementary course content. C) Lesson level learning checks edited, and content reviewed to ensure alignment.
Design - A) Collaborate with SHSU Online on the development of media-rich lessons which include video lecture, dramatization, infographic, and other visual teaching aids. B) Design, identify and develop industry-related assessment tasks and relevant scenarios, rubric, and connection to assessment activities for unit-level formative items. C) Provide the University with the finalized course, pursuant to the timeline.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Master's degree (terminal degree preferred) in Forensic Science or closely related field.
Experience Required for the Position
The successful course developer should have a strong background in Forensic Science methods including physical evidence techniques, or Crime Scene Investigation Techniques, or ethics and professional practice, or closely aligned Forensic Science methods.
Other Requirements for the Position
Terms and Expectations - A) The course must meet quality standard guidelines as outlined by SHSUOnline Course Design Rubric. B) In preparation of course materials, the contractor/consultant agrees to abide by U.S. copyright law. C) The course will be developed in Blackboard Learning Management System. D) Materials developed for the courses will be owned exclusively by SHSU. SHSU retains the exclusive right to use the course and its materials for any lawful purpose.
