Quantity Surveyor- Mechanical or Electrical/Instrumentation

General Information/Job Summary
Position supports the Project Controls team and Project Management staff with construction progress measurement, periodic progress reporting, and change management. Job location will be on construction site. Fantastic opportunity to increase knowledge of process plant construction from the ground up with ample opportunities for a driven, self-starter candidate to move into higher Project Controls or Construction Management roles.
Responsibilities/Competencies
- Interface with the Site Construction Team, Home Office Engineering team, Site Engineering Team, and Field Personnel as required to complete all assigned tasks.
- Provide weekly construction progress measurements utilizing cloud-based progress management software.
- Maintain tracking system that reflects current project budgets and accommodates for any scope changes.
- Maintain project drawing set showing all up-to-date revisions and progress mark-ups.
- Assist project management staff with work package development if needed.
- Interface with project control staff for updating client and internal project reports, and schedule progress.
- Ensure IFC Quantities are developed and reported to Project Controls.
- Develop extensive knowledge of project scope, work with project staff to maintain control budget and any deviations.
- Work with Estimating team to develop labor estimates as drawings are issued and load into project tracking system.
- Provide periodic audits of site construction progress.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in construction and/or engineering
- Good computer skills especially in MS Excel and an ability to easily learn other programs
- Multi-discipline construction field experience highly preferred
- Basic knowledge of construction progress and performance measurement and reporting
- Specific knowledge of the following areas are preferred for the position:
- Site Work including excavation, underground construction for pipe & electrical
- Concrete installation techniques such as structural and equipment foundations
- Structural Steel progress techniques
- Pipe takeoffs by ISO including tracking field welds, shop fabrication, rack piping, insulation, etc.
- Electrical power systems including cable tray, conduit, wire, terminations, and testing
- Process Control systems including instrumentation, DCS, etc.
- Basic understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, ethical, and a team player willing to grow with the company.
- College degree is preferred but not required. Will accept years of experience in lieu of.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk the property and laydown yards.
- Ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
