The Quantity Surveyor’s role is monitoring, reporting, and tracking construction progress based on the scope of work, drawings, details, and specifications. This reporting will be specific to the commodity being observed, and the proper unit of measurement based on the contractual agreement with the contractor. Quantity Surveyor’s will generate both visual and written reports used to help verify contractor’s invoices and reported progress. The person will adequately have the experience to understand and evaluate all aspects of construction progress and communicate in the form of reports. The Quantity Surveyor will perform reconciliations on bills if materials that will be used to settle contractor disputes.
- Strong work ethic
- Logical thinker and knowledge of the construction process
- Knows commodity units of measurement i.e., square foot, linear foot, cubic yards, etc
- Good written communication skills
- The use of a camera and uploading photos
- The ability to walk or stand for long durations
- Technical construction knowledge
- Ability to track construction quantities
- Understand project milestones
- Identify incorrect contractor reporting
- Ability to work with other disciplines, i.e. Construction, Engineering and Quality
- Record keeping and reporting
- Diploma or professional qualification preferred
- % years of experience in construction or a specific construction commodity
- Good communication skills
- Read and understand construction documents
- Use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Organization skill
- Ability to manage time and prioritize
