Purchasing Coordinator
Location: Houston, TX (On-Site)
Reports to: Purchasing Manager
Service Wire is a premier manufacturer of industrial, utility, and commercial wire and cable. Our regional manufacturing location in Houston is seeking an analytical and team-oriented Purchasing Coordinator to join our organization.
Position Summary:
Our Purchasing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the purchasing of production materials, services, and products in regard to cost, quality, availability, and delivery considerations. The role interacts with various departments to assist with material resource planning. They communicate with contractors and suppliers for materials and services, as well as monitoring inventory and order status, and seeking resolution for discrepancies.
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with vendors and contractors to obtain price quotations, product availability, delivery schedules, and quality considerations
- Monitors order status to ensure supplies have arrived and traces delinquent orders
- Notifies vendors of order discrepancies and updates departments of materials status issues
- Supports the development of new supply chain and contractor sources
- Assists with material resources planning and maintains adequate inventory levels of stock
- Uses software to enter purchase orders and receive orders, and track maintenance history
- Manages processing and reporting for scrap
- Produces regular updates, reports, and proposals for review and approval
- Responds to department needs and follow through on all aspects of request, both oral and written
- Additional duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- 2+ years of related purchasing experience or equivalent training, previous mechanical purchasing a plus, or a Bachelor's degree with relevant learning experience
- Demonstrates strong analytical, math and measuring skills, and capability to quantify orders
- Proficient experience with Microsoft office programs and related computer applications
- Effectively demonstrates time management, detail attentiveness, prioritization of tasks, and organizational skills
- Ability to work individually with minimal supervision and cooperatively interact with members of various departments and external vendors and suppliers
- Negotiation skills and understanding of negotiation best practices
- Strong verbal/written communication
