The City of Lynden's Public Works Department is hiring a Temporary Plant(s) Maintenance Worker (Approximately 3 to 4 months).
Job Summary
On a temporary, seasonal basis, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the City's water, wastewater and compost facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs required labor and general duties in the capacity of a maintenance helper; may be involved in maintenance projects as part of a crew, including tank cleaning, equipment repair, and pump station maintenance.
- Assists with the maintenance of public facilities and grounds keeping.
- Operates pressure washer, small truck, common hand and power tools.
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
- Assists with monitoring wastewater treatment processes utilizing SCADA, on-line instruments, meters, and gauges.
- Operates and maintains equipment at wastewater treatment facilities; includes but is not limited to pumps, mixers, valves, and machinery.
- Prioritizes activities between different processes and equipment to maintain proper facility operations.
- Records and maintains plant data and records.
OTHER DUTIES
- Attends and participates in meetings pertaining to Public Works matters and issues as needed.
- Performs all duties in conformance with City policy, safety manual, Labor and Industries, and appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs other related duties as needed and assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum four to six months (4-6) general employment experience. (Experience does not need to be continual or for the same employer).
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the incumbent with the necessary qualifications may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and appropriate insurance at the time of hire for work-related travel.
- Must pass appropriate background checks.
