JOB TITLE:Public Works Director
DEPARTMENT:Public Works, Ware County
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for planning and directing the operation of
the department, including the work of road and bridge construction and maintenance
personnel.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Implements policies and procedures as directed by the County Manager.
- Responds to public complaints about county roads and bridges.
- Plans and directs the work of the department; supervises the work of personnel
- Develops short- and long-range plans and goals for the department; determines
- Prepares and administers the annual departmental budget, maintains records of
- Inspects road, bridge and drainage systems; plans maintenance and repair

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to direct the work of personnel
involved in road and bridge construction and maintenance operation tasks. Successful
performance helps ensure the safety and attractiveness of county roads and the
effective and efficient operation of the department.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county
employees, elected officials, vendors, state DOT personnel and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate
personnel, negotiate matters, and resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting,
standing or walking. The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects, climb
ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an office and outdoors. The
employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and
inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks,
goggles or gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct
supervision over Bridge Repair Supervisor (1), Office Manager (1), and department employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of
