Promote positive Public Relations between the school district and the community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district. Distribute pertinent information about the district and its activities to employees.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, desktop publishing, and public speaking.
Thorough knowledge of media relations and Public Relations functions
Ability to implement policy and procedures.
Ability to interpret data.
Ability to use personal computer and graphic design to produce district publications.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Public and Community Relations
- Direct and manage the district's public information activities.
- Coordinate district events such as Annual Teacher Convocation and State of the District
- Serve as the information liaison between the school system and the community.
- Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage.
- Prepare press releases and publish articles and photos in local media and other publications.
- Understanding of Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, SnapChat, and WhatsApp
- Effective use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, and/or Canva
- Help school personnel publicize and promote any performances, exhibitions, displays, or special programs sponsored by the schools.
- Design, prepare, and edit district publications including newsletters, recruitment brochures, programs for special events, and other publications.
- Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals.
- Maintain district website: annual and monthly calendars, district and campus events, School Board Meetings, athletic events.
- Maintain district press clipping files and annual timelines of events.
- Ensures the district has an active online presence, including posting notices, photos, and other informative, engaging, and timely content.
- Keep informed of developing communication trends and techniques.
- Must be flexible with time of day, weekend, holidays if information needs to be communicated publicly.
- Must take a proactive approach and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal communication.
Policies, Reports, and Law
- Help the superintendent develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.
- Implement the policies established by Federal and State Law, State Board of
Education rule, and Local Board Policy in the public information area.
Equipment Used: Personal Computer and/or Laptop, SLR camera, video camera, and a variety of small format copiers, and large (wide) format printers.
