Job Description Summary
Cuesta College welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track position as a Psychology faculty member within the Social Sciences Division starting August 2024. The selected candidate will be assigned a five-course load of undergraduate psychology courses each semester along with active service to the district. Courses within the department include Introductory Psychology, Research Methods, Biological Psychology, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Personality and Adjustment. Instruction will be conducted in-person with limited opportunities for online teaching.

Major responsibilities
  • Teach a diverse population of students in both classroom and online settings, adapting to various schedules and locations as determined by institutional need.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in current content and pedagogical approaches.
  • Develop equity-minded syllabi for all courses, employing effective teaching methods, assessing student progress, providing constructive feedback on assignments, and designing appropriate learning assessments.
  • Maintain regular in-person and virtual office hours to provide necessary support to students.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities
  • Contribute to the college's mission by attending division meetings and serving on college committees such as those related to shared governance, curriculum development, and college accreditation.
  • Collaborate collegially with other faculty participating in program review and instructional assessments.
  • Cultivate positive and respectful working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic characterized by conscientiousness, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
Required:
-Master's in psychology from an accredited institution;
OR
-Bachelor's in psychology from an accredited institution AND Master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work form an accredited institution;
OR
-The equivalent (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. OR
-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
AdditionalRequirement:
-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable:
-Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
-Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges;
-Previous teaching experience in specialized Psychology courses such as Research Methods and Biological Psychology.

Interview Process Information
Selected applicants will be cordially invited to participate in a teaching demonstration and interview scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 2024.
First interviews will be held in person. Applicants in need of an accommodation should contact Human Resources at In person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they interview on campus.
Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

A faculty member who is employed for less than 40% of the assigned time of a full-time faculty member is not eligible to participate in or to receive a District contribution toward the medical insurance benefit program.
The District fringe benefit contribution can be found on the Insurance/Benefits website:
All regular full-time faculty members and full-time temporary faculty members are required to enroll in at least the minimum medical coverage. Every new regular full-time faculty member/full-time temporary faculty member must enroll when they are first eligible, which is the first of the month following their date of hire.
A part-time faculty member who is eligible, but does not wish to participate in the District's medical insurance benefit program must complete a Declination of Coverage form.
A faculty member whose monthly cost for insurance exceeds the District's contribution is required to pay the additional cost by payroll deduction.
