College of Marin is excited to invite applications for the following full-time, tenure-track positions in the Kinesiology & Athletics department:
  • Kinesiology Instructor/Head Coach Women's Basketball
  • Kinesiology Instructor/Head CoachMen's & Women's Soccer
  • Kinesiology Instructor/Head CoachWomen's Volleyball & Beach Volleyball
The College will hire up to two of these positions. At the end of the employment application, you will be asked to identify which Instructor/Head Coach position you are applying for.
SELECTION PROCESS

Regrettably, College of Marin is not able to offer reimbursement for travel or relocation at this time.This position performs its duties on the Kentfield campus and off-site, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.
First-round interviews for these positions will take place remotely, via Zoom, in approximately late March or early April. Candidates forwarded as finalists will be invited to our Kentfield campus for a final interview and teaching demonstration with students in May.

OVERVIEW
The faculty member, under the direction of the Director of Student Services - Kinesiology & Athletics, shall be responsible for teaching assigned kinesiology, athletics, and health education classes, offering a diverse and fulfilling teaching experience. The classes the instructor may be asked to teach may include, but are not limited to: Aerobic Fitness, Baseball, Basketball, Exercise Science, Fitness, Mat Pilates, Soccer, Sports Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, Strength Training, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, Yoga, and Zumba. This varied curriculum enables the faculty member to make a meaningful impact on students' academic and athletic development. In addition, and with the assistance from an assistant head coach, the faculty member will serve as the Head Coach for the Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, or Women's Volleyball/Beach Volleyball programs.
Our coaching model has been thoughtfully designed to provide the head coach with the necessary resources to excel in their role coaching one (basketball) or two (soccer, volleyball/beach volleyball) teams The assistant head soccer coach brings expertise and experience to the teams and plays a vital role in contributing to a cohesive and dynamic coaching partnership, taking on up to 67% in-season coaching load. This allocation of responsibilities allows the head coach to focus on strategic leadership, mentorship, and overall program development.
Moreover, to further enhance and support the coaching staff's capabilities, funding is allocated for additional, seasonal assistant coaches for each team, which also helps to create an environment where each student-athlete can thrive and reach their full potential.
Teaching and coaching assignments may include day, evening, and weekend hours, and may be on-campus, online, hybrid, and/or off-campus.College of Marin is looking for Full-time Faculty who:

  • have experience with student learning outcomes assessment.

ONLINE INSTRUCTIONAll faculty members must be available to provide instruction in the classroom (in person). Please note that the College does not offer online-only teaching/coaching assignments.
Essential Functions
  • Provide effective instruction and coaching using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter.
  • Prepare and evaluate all class/field/court assignments and examinations.
  • Advise, assist and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes.
  • Participate in program activities, including curriculum development, evaluation and decision-making, program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development.
  • Contribute to development of program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in college professional or shared governance committees and in departmental activities such as maintaining course outlines, program review, student learning outcomes assessment, other curricular development, etc.
  • Maintain and post office hours.
  • Maintain and submit accurate student records in a timely manner as required.
  • Maintain currency and knowledge in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Guide student athletes, emphasizing academic achievement as an instructor and athletic achievement as a coach.
  • Recruit and maintain student athletes sufficient to field a competitive intercollegiate basketball, soccer, or volleyball/beach volleyball team.
  • Comply with all California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A), Conference, District and College rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics/basketball/ soccer/volleyball/beach volleyball.
  • Provide clear and accurate information in areas related to the coaching of intercollegiate basketball, soccer, or volleyball/beach volleyball, including but not limited to, practice schedules, game schedules, behavior and eligibility expectations, contest results, web site information, media guide information, travel requests/records, budget requests/records and purchasing processes/records.
  • Initiate and participate in fundraising activities to enhance the athletic experience for students.

Requirements & Desirables
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  1. A Master's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; or
  2. A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in any Life Science, Dance, Physiology, Health Education, Recreation Administration, or Physical Therapy; or
  3. The equivalent*; and
  4. Have the equivalent of two full years of professional experience in the area of the coaching assignment; and
  5. A valid California driver's license; and
  6. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
  1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  2. Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
  3. California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
  4. Certificated candidates who have not previously been employed in an academic position in California will be required to provide a medical certificate from a licensed physician showing that the candidate is free from any communicable disease unfitting the candidate to instruct or associate with students. The medical exam shall have been conducted not more than six months before submission of the certificate and shall be at the expense of the candidate. (Ed. Code Section 87408.6)
  5. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law ().
