DESCRIPTION
Napa Valley College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This position offers the opportunity to participate in developing and implementing the philosophy and curriculum of the Ethnic Studies Department at Napa Valley College.

This full-time, tenure-track faculty position works a 175-day faculty work year, in accordance with the district/faculty agreement, beginning August 2024 (fall semester). Appointments are contingent upon Board approval. Initial salary placement is $72,138-$83,867 annually, with future steps to $118,559. Placement on the salary range is commensurate with education and experience. The college offers a fringe benefit package, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and CalSTRS membership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Arts and Humanities:
  • Teach a combination of courses, which will include: Ethnic Studies 1, Ethnic Studies 2, Native American Studies, African American Studies, Chicanx Studies, Intro to Latin American Studies, Asian Pacific Islander American Studies, Filipina/x/o American Studies, Women's Ethnic Heritage in the U.S., Global Women's Ethnic Heritage, and Critical Mixed Race Studies.
  • Work positively and cooperatively with other department members, the division Dean, and the vice president to develop and maintain quality instruction; budget for and maintain adequate supplies;
  • Assist the department and program coordinator in development of Ethnic Studies curriculum and other division tasks;
  • Perform related duties in the Division of Arts and Humanities, as assigned.

The assignment may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, off-campus classes, and online or other technology-supported instruction. All contract and regular faculty are required to adhere to contractual obligations, meet assigned classes, maintain regular office hours, assist, and advise students, participate in division activities, and appropriate college committees, including regular faculty meetings of the department and division. Napa Valley College believes in ongoing professional development that assists faculty in improving their teaching skills, providing support to students, and encouraging responsibility within the college community.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
1. Earned Master's degree in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies , Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, or American Indian Studies
OR
2. Master's in Ethnic Studies
OR
3. The equivalent. If you do not possess the stated minimum educational qualifications as stated in #1 or #2 above and are seeking consideration on the basis of equivalency, a Request for Equivalency Review form must be submitted at the time of application.
All degrees must be from an accredited institution.
Experience:
  • At least one year of full-time (or two years part-time) experience teaching at a community college or equivalent level
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and race/ethnic background of community college students

Title 8, USC, Section 1324-A requires verification of eligibility for employment in the United States.
Desirable Professional Competencies:
  • Experience teaching courses and/or developing curriculum focused on African Americans, Latinx/é Americans, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, Arab Americans, and/or Native Americans;
  • Experience teaching courses focusing on or integrating the intersections of ethnicity, gender, and sexuality;
  • Expertise in culturally relevant or responsive pedagogy;
  • Experience with developing curriculum that integrates civic engagement, service learning, community organizing, and/or public presentations, performances, or exhibitions;
  • Demonstrate experience addressing the needs of diverse learning styles through the use of various teaching modalities.
  • Demonstrate experience working with or serving individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds.
