COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Salary Range: Yearly Salary of $80,693 - $113,724 (23/24 Faculty Salary Schedule); Placement within this range is determined by teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees. Contracted salary is for 177 days per year (August through May) as specified in the All Faculty Association Contract, Article 8.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position in the ESL Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2024. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Essential Functions
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe English as a Second Language Department at Santa Rosa Junior College offers a full range of ESL coursework and programs. We serve over 2000 multilingual students with a wide variety of personal, vocational, and academic goals. We also provide community-based classes, civics-based education and traditional ESL classes. Our goal is for students to access campus/community programs and services and to assist students, both on and off campus, to realize their aspirations. The department encourages bilingual/bicultural individuals, particularly representative of our student population, and persons with disabilities, to apply. The department is especially interested in instructors with content-based instructional background.
Essential Functions:
  • Work as the anchor ESL faculty at SRJC Roseland
  • Provide excellent instruction and support to noncredit ESL students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments
  • Develop and revise curriculum to meet the diverse needs of ESL, incorporating current instructional technologies and best practices
  • Implement and conduct placement assessment and continuous improvement of ESL programs and courses
  • Help coordinate the noncredit ESL program and events
  • Maintain currency in the field of teaching English to multilingual students
  • Participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees
  • Advocate for noncredit ESL students at the College and collaborate with support staff and community partners to enhance the overall ESL program
  • Foster partnerships with local organizations and promote the ESL program within the community
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Required for Non-Credit Courses:
  • Bachelor's Degree in TESL or TESOL; OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, any foreign language, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, or Speech AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR
  • Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified above AND one year experience teaching English as a Second Language in any accredited institution AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR
  • Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a Second Language; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Language Arts and Literature.

Preferred:
• Master's Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Education with a TESOL concentration
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
• Experience coordinating a noncredit ESL program, curriculum development, and assessment
• Experience in community outreach initiatives, fostering partnerships with local organizations, promoting the ESL program within the community and advocating for Non-Credit ESL within the College structure.
